All About Essence R&B Music Festival

It was quite a time this year at New Orlean's Essence Festival. The annual R&B music festival drew in record crowds, in a time when concert ticket sales are less than perfect. Fans felt that the price was well worth it to see artists such as Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, and Mary J. Blige, to name a few.

Fans packed the New Orlean's Superdome to listen to a wide sampling of some of the best that R&B music has to offer. In addition to artists famous for making headlines over the last few decades, there were also some real classic hitters there like Gladys Knight and Earth Wind and Fire.

The Essence Festival has a long history. It has taken place every year in New Orleans since 1995, with the exception of 2006. That year it took place in Houston, Texas as a result of the massive damage to New Orleans from Hurrican Katrina. This year the festival took place from July 2-4th. This was the biggest year yet for the Essence Festival, as the Superdowe sold out for the first time in Essence history.
