Universal Music Canada Inks Worldwide Deal With Bobby Bazini

UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA INKS WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH TOP SOUL & BLUES ARTIST BOBBY BAZINI

2010 PLATINUM DEBUT ‘BETTER IN TIME’ FEATURED THE HIT SINGLE “I WONDER”

(Toronto, ON – 12 November 2012)  - Universal Music Canada (UMC), the country’s leading music company, is pleased to announce the signing of Québec soul and blues artist, Bobby Bazini.  The deal was announced today by Universal Music Canada’s President and CEO, Randy Lennox, and Bobby Bazini.  Born and raised in the Upper-Laurentians a few hours north of Montréal, Quebec Bazini exploded in the world music scene in 2010 with his debut album, Better in Time, which sold more than 125,000 independently in Canada.   “Bobby Bazini is true home-grown Canadian talent with a global voice and we couldn’t be happier to have signed him,” said Lennox.  “He has an authentic sound that resembles the likes of Ray LaMontagne but continues to add his own contemporary twist. Our team loves Bobby and we can’t wait to hear what he delivers next.”   Discovered on the French musical variety show Taratata in Paris in 2010, Bazini’s musical career climbed at a rapid pace with his very first single “I Wonder”, topping the Québec charts for nine straight weeks at #1 in the very same year, holding off challenges for chart supremacy by teen sensation Justin Bieber and fellow Quebecer Rufus Wainwright.   Better in Time launched his career and secured the attention of contemporary music fans around the globe, while securing him two Juno® Award nominations for New Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year in 2011. Bazini is currently working on his second album, which will be through Universal Music for the world.   “I am really looking forward to working on the next phase of my career with an exciting new team” says Bobby Bazini. “I have been so blessed with the success of my first album, and I am really looking forward to continue making the music that I love.” Bazini grew up listening to music and at 15-years old was taught how to play the guitar by his father. Through most of his early years, he was exposed to country music through his parents but it was when his grandmother introduced him to the ‘60s authenticity of Elvis, and particularly Johnny Cash that he found his true musical inspiration. Also inspired by the lyrical talent of Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, Bazini developed his love for song-writing and began creating his songs strictly with the lyrics and later added melodies at an early age. With these different musical influences – country, blues and soul – Bazini discovered a style that was uniquely his own.
