“The instrumental album sees Moccio at his most vulnerable, as a sense of urgency and longing pierces through the piano-saturated pieces” Paste

“Stephan Moccio’s piano acts as the poet’s pen” Billboard

MAY 10 2024 (TORONTO, ON) – Oscar and three-time GRAMMY nominated artist Stephan Moccio has released his moving and emotive new album, Legends, Myths and Lavender, out today via  Decca / Republic Records. Listen HERE. Solo piano is the foundation of this 17-track meticulously crafted collection, featuring stark and stirring melodies all composed and produced by Moccio.

“If you had to simplify the album in four words, those words would be, ‘Feel more, think less’,” Stephan observes. “The record is me coming to grips with my mortality. I’m a father, which I take very seriously. Now, I’m questioning how I want to approach music for the rest of my life. I want to make sure I put out art that’s truthful, relevant, and moving. I do that best when I’m at the piano.”

Stephan crafted Legends, Myths and Lavender over a transformative 26-day period during the winter of 2023.  Trading Los Angeles for the South of France, he decamped to Brad Pitt & Damien Quintard’s Miraval Studios around his 50th birthday to completely immerse himself in the inspiring surroundings. Away from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan chaos, he focused solely on the creation of the music, which was almost entirely written and recorded on the spot.

Highlights on the new album include “A Daydream In Camelot,” "Lavender Fields," "The Wanderer,"  "Make-believe," "Communion” and more. Allowing himself and the piano space to simply be, Stephan made sure to preserve nuances such as the creaking of a pedal, tactile imprint on the keys, and his own breath.

The album’s title speaks to the scope of the record for Stephan. “My music tells stories,” he states. “I hope you return to my music—as if it’s an old friend. My intent for the music is to be truthful. I also hope it’s a comforting blanket on a rainy day for you,” he smiles.

Legends, Myths and Lavender is another milestone in Stephan Moccio’s extraordinary career. As a composer, songwriter, arranger, and producer, he has collaborated with the likes of Céline Dion (“A New Day Has Come”), co-wrote and produced “Wrecking Ball” for Miley Cyrus, and joined forces with The Weeknd for the RIAA diamond-certified “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey),” receiving an Academy® Award nomination and three GRAMMY® Award nominations. He’s also penned anthems for superstars including Andrea Bocelli, Avril Lavigne, Dua Lipa, James Blunt, Seal, and many more, garnering seven Billboard Hot 100 hits and 5 billion+ streams. Among his solo material, 2020’s Tales of Solace yielded “Fracture,” generating 100+ million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, the acclaimed follow-up Lionheart garnered a 2023 Juno Award nomination in the category of “Instrumental Album of the Year.

Stephan Moccio’s transcendent music has been heard at events around the globe.  He most recently performed for a captive audience of changemakers at Global Citizen’s Prize 2024 Ceremony in New York City.  He penned the anthem for the Vancouver 2012 Olympic Games in his native Canada, and also graced the stages of The Oscars, The GRAMMY Awards and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon among others.
