“Machika” is J Balvin’s latest hit
J Balvin made history last year when his landmark hit single “Mi Gente” became the first-ever all-Spanish language song to reach #1 on Spotify’s Global Chart. Now he’s back with the highly anticipated follow-up “Machika” featuring newcomer Jeon and Anitta. Produced by DJ Chuckie and ChildsPlay, the song is already making waves but you might be curious – what does it mean? Well for those of you who don’t speak Spanish, Umusic has your back with the English translation of the song. Take a look!
Verse 1
[English Translation] Go, let’s break it down (hey) There is no time to waste (hey) From the disco to the motel (uh) Meaner than Anabelle I dance and everyone joins me I leave a mark on you like El Zorro I don’t waste my time, it is gold I spent it all, I don’t save up |
Just in case you weren’t aware, J Balvin is a busy guy. People listen to him, he’s influential. He’ll leave his mark on you, much like the infamous caped crusader Zorro. And he’s letting you know in this verse of the song. You’ve been warned.
Pre-Chorus
[Spanish / Original] Estoy muy borracho Y no puedo más Y no puedo más Estoy muy borracho Y no puedo más Y no puedo más |
[English Translation] I’m really drunk and I can’t handle it no more No more I’m really drunk and I can’t handle it no more No more |
This one’s fairly self explanatory. J Balvin has had a bit too much to drink and he can’t handle it. But what is it? The mystery ensues…
Chorus
Machika, machika
Machika, machika (batata)
Machika, machika (pará ta)
Machika, machika (batata)
Machika, machika, machika, machika
Machika, machika, machika, machika, machika
According to Billboard, the word “Machika” is presumed to mean “smash” in Papiamento; a creole language spoken in Aruba where DJ Chuckie and Jeon both reside. And a SMASH this song truly is.
Can’t get enough of Machika? Well you’re certainly in for a treat because the music video is out of this world! Or shall we say a post-apocalyptic world. See for yourself and be sure to let us know your thoughts either in the comments below or on Twitter @umusic!
