Max Emanuel Cencic Celebrates 250 Years of Porpora with Two Recordings
OPERA ARIAS Out Today
GERMANICO IN GERMANIA Previously Released January 12
02 March 2018 (Toronto, ON) – To commemorate 250 years since Nicola Porpora’s death, Grammy-nominated countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic releases Opera Arias and Germanico in Germania via Decca Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Out today, Opera Arias is available online now, along with Germanico in Germania which arrived earlier this year on January 12.
Today’s release of Opera Arias is a solo album of Porpora Opera Arias arriving the day before the anniversary. It features no less than seven world premiere recordings including “Se rea ti vuole il cielo” from Carlo il Calvo. Cencic is joined by Armonia Atenea and conductor George Petrou. Listen to the album HERE.
Germanico in Germania is a world premiere recording of Porpora’s forgotten opera performed on period instruments. Cencic takes the title role alongside star soprano Julia Lezhneva and Capella Cracoviensis under the baton of Jan Tomasz Adamus. The 3CD set is out now. Listen HERE.
Both releases celebrate the work of Neapolitan composer Nicola Porpora (1686-1768) whose remarkable output includes many Baroque operas as well as oratorios, solo cantatas, motets, and vocal serenades. He was also famed in his day as a renowned singing teacher and his students included the castrato, Farinelli.
Cencic breathes new life into Porpora’s works. He offers fresh insights into the composer’s music through these new recordings and performs with skill and flair. As Opernwelt (Germany’s magazine for opera, operetta, and ballet) commented, “Cencic is blessed with the finest countertenor voice of our day.”
