Or as his parents like to call him: Dominic Harrison
Just 20 years old and already, YUNGBLUD has achieved more than some do in their entire lives. A high school dropout with just an EP to his name, this Yorkshire-born London-based recording artist is taking the music world by storm with his unique fusion of hip-hop, rock, and alternative genres.
It’s quite the story considering just last year, the teenager was still writing music in his small London apartment. Today, he’s performing it in venues across the U.K., Australia and most recently North America with a set of tour dates in support of K.Flay. At the rate he’s going, we doubt there will be anywhere YUNGBLUD hasn’t touched by the end of the year.
If there’s one thing about YUNGBLUD you should know, it’s that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Inspired by the likes of Arctic Monkey’s Alex Turner, NWA, Eminem, and The Rolling Stones to name a few, YUNGBLUD sets himself apart from artists his age through musical commentary on relevant cultural and political topics.
Songs like ‘Tin Pan Boy’ highlight YUNGBLUD’s frustration with the gentrification of historical London neighborhoods while his most recent single ‘Polygraph Eyes’ offer listeners a rare male perspective on issues of consent and sexual assault; especially timely considering today’s #MeToo movement. YUNGBLUD says his goal is not to make others agree but to inspire them to speak out like he does.
A quick stroll through his Instagram and you can’t help but notice YUNGBLUD’s signature style: chain necklaces, black polos or t-shirts tucked into cropped jeans that show off his pink socks. Not only that, you’ll notice lots of instruments: guitar, bass, piano, drums. YUNGBLUD plays all of it. Don’t be fooled. Although his style of music may seem eclectic, he isn’t afraid to dabble in the world of pop music. He recently visited the Studio Brussel in Belgium and performed a mashup of Camila Cabelo’s Havana and Dua Lipa’s New Rules. You’re going to want to take a listen.
And while you’re at it, be sure to check out YUNGBLUD’s poignant video for his latest single “Polygraph Eyes” from his self-titled debut EP.
With more new music and tour dates on the horizon for 2018, we guarantee this won’t be the last you hear of YUNGBLUD.
