We’re back at it with a DOUBLE #BTL for you
If you haven’t had the time to keep up with Luis Fonsi and Demi Lovato lately, here’s the 411. Luis capped off 2017 with the biggest the song of the year (“Despacito”, FYI) while Demi just recently kicked off another world tour. Talk about slaying. As if the dynamic duo wasn’t busy enough, they’ve teamed up once again to deliver the English remix of their hit single “Échame La Culpa”.
Under a new name, “Not On You,” this version gives English speaking listeners a taste of the underlying heartbreak that created this reggaeton banger and we’re breaking it all down for you in our latest Behind The Lyrics!
Verse 1
English Translation (Luis) You tell me that you love me You tell me that you need me You knew it from the start, you’re not my only one Still you wouldn’t leave me Oh, no need to say you’re sorry You know you gotta leave me But know you gotta know That nothing good will come if you’re with me |
Right from the start, we’re thrown into the ruins of a toxic romance. Luis and Demi play two parts of a tragic couple who just can’t seem to let each other go. In his verse, Luis takes the blame and tries to distance himself from Demi who just won’t take no for an answer.
Chorus
Spanish Original (Demi & Luis) |
English Translation (Demi & Luis) Not on you, not on you, not on you my love (my love) Is better if we let it be Not on you, not on you, not on you my love (my love) So baby put the blame on me (repeat) |
Luis tries so hard to get the point across, but Demi is clearly blinded by love. This isn’t going to end well..
Bridge
English Original (Demi)
Okay, I don’t really, really wanna fight anymore
I don’t really, really want to fake it no more
Play me like The Beatles, baby, just let it be
So come on, put the blame on me, yeah
I don’t really, really wanna fight anymore
I don’t really, really want to fake it no more
Play me like The Beatles, baby, just let it be
So come on, put the blame on me
But as much as Luis asks for the blame, Demi tries to brush it under the rug. She wants to reconcile, put the past in the past and “let it be”. Because that’s what love is all about: you accept the ones you love with all the good and the bad, not just pieces of it. Now that’s some next level romance!
So there you have it! It’s all very emotional and heartbreaking. Have a listen to the “Échame La Culpa (Not On You)” remix:
