Ready for WRLD takeover
Under the name Juice WRLD, nineteen-year-old Jared Higgins got his start in high school by releasing his music on SoundCloud. Before honing in on his rap skills, he learned the piano, guitar, and the drums. His single “Lucid Dreams” was released in May and has since peaked at #3 on the US charts. Pretty impressive for a newcomer. Listen to the single below!
Though Goodbye & Good Riddance is his first studio album, Juice WRLD already has a steady platform, one that he built for himself. In an interview for Pigeons and Planes, he described his popularity on SoundCloud:
“It was natural, I never paid for promotion or bought followers. It’s always been authentic and when I took a step back from everything and realized that’s what it was, that’s when I was like, ‘Okay, this is me.’”
He’s well known by fans for his unique sound, which blends rap, strong melody, and lyrics that lean more towards the emo genre. Interestingly enough, Juice WRLD says his musical influences are all across the board. He’ll listen to everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Foo Fighters to Chief Keef. That may explain his ability to bend genres within his music so well.
Another thing you should probably know, he can freestyle. Really well. Like, for over an hour.
We can’t wait to see what he gets up to next! Are you a Juice WRLD fan? Let us know over on Twitter! @umusic
