MEET: Brother-Sister Country Duo, The Reklaws

Posted on January 04, 2019

These two Walker siblings = The Reklaws

Meet Jenna and Stuart Walker, the siblings who make up country duo, The Reklaws. Although part of a family of seven in total, these two found their passion at a young age, leading them to ultimately pursue a career in music together.

Jenna, being the oldest of the two, has been singing and showing off her vocal chops ever since she could talk. Stuart on the other hand began learning the guitar and singing at the age of nine. The Walker family (fun fact: Reklaw is actually Walker spelled backwards), grew up in Cambridge, Ontario, where they spent many of their younger days at their “adventure farm.” Jenna and Stuart say they both used to dress up as hillbillies and play for tourists at pig races. Now that’s country.

It was not always fun and games, though. The duo used to also work on the farm, which they say, ultimately helped shape who they are today. They learned early on that hard work pays off. The duo also says that working on the farm taught them to understand the true meaning behind country music. Of growing up on the farm, they say:

“It’s easy to see how you can write songs about places like this, the beauty and the stories behind every old farm is like a book of songs.”

Now, how exactly did Jenna and Stuart decide that they wanted to pursue a career in music together? They say that at one point, there was talk about a reality show being created around their family’s life. This opportunity ultimately took them to Nashville, where both siblings really fell in love with writing music and performing.

But it was performing that really captured their interest and what they both feel came most naturally. A fact that’s inarguable once you see them performing, as you’ll see that the vibrant energy they give off is virtually tangible and completely contagious.

The duo is known to be incredible songwriters, singers and performers in general. This has been proven time and time again, when they have gone on to win titles at the 2012 CCMA Discover Program and 2013 Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, winning the 2018 CCMA Rising Star Award, to landing on the Prime Minister’s playlist of fave hits, performing at the Grey Cup and even lending their musical talents to the World Junior hockey tournaments for the official song.

While at Boots & Hearts in 2013, The Reklaws opened for Dierks Bentley on the festival’s main stage, where there was an audience of 40,000. They gave such a great performance, that they were invited back to perform the three following years. So far, they have opened for acts such as Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett and more. They say that the festival itself has been “great supporters of [them] and helped [them].”

Throughout the last three years, The Reklaws have been back and forth in Nashville, working on new music for all of us.
