Posted on January 29, 2019

The 2019 JUNO Award nominations are here. Leading the way with six nominations is Shawn Mendes, followed closely behind by The Weeknd, who has five. Both artists received nominations in key categories, including the Fan Choice Award, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year.

Several artists received their first JUNO Award nominations, including German-Canadian singer bülow, whose debut EP “Damaged Vol 1.” was met with critical acclaim. The 20-year-old pop singer earned four JUNO nominations in total, which include Pop Album of the Year, the Fan Choice Award, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Not a Love Song.” bülow is also slated to perform at the award show, which is shaping up to be a must-see event.

Also nominated for “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” is YouTube sensation Johnny Orlando. The young singer-songwriter is fresh off the successful release of his single “Last Summer,” which can be heard here:

Another first-time JUNO nominee is the brother-sister country duo, the Reklaws. Comprised of siblings Jenna and Stuart Walker, the Cambridge, Ontario born Reklaws are nominated for Country Album of the Year for their debut EP “Feels Like That.”

There are also some familiar faces that received nominations for JUNOs. Among them are Hamilton’s own Arkells, who earned their twelfth and thirteenth JUNO Award nominations for the categories Best Group and Rock Album of the Year for their 2018 EP “Rally Cry.”

Brampton’s own Alessia Cara also received three JUNO nominations for Artist of the Year, the Fan Choice Award, and Single of the Year for her hit song “Growing Pains.” Alessia already has 13 total JUNO nominations in her young career, and has won for Best Pop Album in 2017 and Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2016.

The 48th annual JUNO Awards will be hosted by Canadian Music Hall of Fame member and nine-time JUNO award-winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. It will take place in London, ON and will be televised live on March 17th, 2019.
