When Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced their engagement after two months of dating, fans had a million questions. How did this go down? Where and when did the pair meet? Why did Priyanka Chopra reply to Nick Jonas’ DM’s and not mine?
We don’t have answers to all your questions (Priyanka wouldn’t reply to our DM’s, either (jk)), but now that the superstar couple is happily married, we finally have a better picture of how it all went down. Here is a timeline of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ relationship:
It went down in the DM’s
Nick and Priyanka’s relationship began the same way that so many others do nowadays…he slid into her DMs. Nick told Vogue magazine that in September 2016, he sent a Twitter message to the “Quantico” star that read: “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet.” Priyanka responded the same day, and the two began a “friendly” texting relationship.
Their First Meeting
The two texted each other for months but didn’t meet until an Oscars party hosted by Vanity Fair in 2017. When Nick spotted Priyanka, he told Vogue magazine that he walked up to her, got down on one knee and said, “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?” Seriously. Unfortunately, Priyanka was in a rush to catch a flight, but the pair had a quick drink together before she left.
The 2017 Met Gala
The two met again in New York for a drink at the Carlyle Hotel, a week before attending the 2017 Met Gala together. After the drink, the pair made their way to Priyanka’s apartment, where Nick met Priyanka’s mom for the first time.
The two talked and hung out for hours before Nick eventually departed. Priyanka told Vogue that she was expecting a kiss goodbye, but instead got a “back pat.” Nick insisted that he was being respectful. “Your mom was in the house! He said. “I thought it was a respectful first night.” What a nice guy.
One Year Later
After attending a few Met Gala after parties, the pair didn’t see each other again for an entire year. Nick, speaking to Jimmy Fallon about that prolonged period, said that at the time “their lives were kind of taking them different places.”
The two stars saw each other again at the 2018 Met Gala, and their relationship seems to have taken off from there. Soon after the Gala, the pair were seen on various dates, which included a live performance of “Beauty and the Beast” and an LA Dodgers game. The morning after the Dodgers game (their third date), Nick called his mom and said he was going to marry Priyanka.
The Engagement
Nick and Priyanka’s relationship moved quickly from there. Nick brought Priyanka to his cousin’s wedding in New Jersey, where the actress bonded with Nick’s family. Soon after, Nick accompanied Priyanka to India to meet her family. In July, after just two months of dating, Nick proposed to Priyanka in Greece. Like the old saying goes: when you know, you know.
Priyanka was surprised because she thought that the purpose of the trip was to celebrate her 36th birthday. Nick proposed after midnight so that Priyanka’s birthday and their engagement wouldn’t fall on the same day. Priyanka said yes (after 45 seconds of speechless silence), and Nick gave Priyanka a ring he had chosen from Tiffany & Co. a few weeks earlier.
The Wedding
According to People Magazine, the engaged couple obtained a marriage license in November 2018. That same month, they held a puja, which is a Hindu prayer ceremony that occurs before a big event. In early December, the couple finally had their wedding ceremonies. Nick and Priyanka wanted to celebrate both of their respective cultures, so they had two weddings.
According to People Mag, the celebrations took place in India on December 1st and 2nd. The ceremony on the 1st was a traditional American wedding that was officiated by Nick’s father. The service on the 2nd was a traditional Hindu ceremony, which apparently included an “epic sing-off” from the invitees.
Congratulations to the newlyweds! They are #goals. Nick had a huge year in his personal life (clearly), but he also made big strides in his professional one. It was highlighted by the release of the song “Right Now”, which features Robin Schulz. Listen to it here:
