Now, here’s your 2020 #VMAs recap!
LEWIS CAPALDI LITERALLY HAVING THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL
Lewis sang a breathtaking rendition of his hit song “Before You Go“ during the VMA pre-show. The singer-songwriter (who was nominated for PUSH Best New Artist) delivered a stripped back performance free of any theatrics or dance breaks and it was honestly so stunning. We’re manifesting a shift from “nominee” to “award winner” for Lewis at the 2021 VMAs.

THE WEEKND SHOWING UP AND SHOWING OUT
The King of the Fall opened the show with a jaw dropping performance of “Blinding Lights,” set to a glorious firework display over New York’s Hudson Yards. If we had to sum it up in one word, legendary might suffice.
When he wasn’t mesmerizing us with his vocals and stage presence, The Weeknd was using the platform to draw much needed attention to the Black Lives Matter Movement as he addressed victims of police brutality during his acceptance speeches.
The Weeknd also ended the night by adding two more illustrious awards to his collection, winning:
- Video of the Year (“Blinding Lights”)
- Best R&B (“Blinding Lights”)

MACHINE GUN KELLY BEING THE CUTEST HUMAN ALIVE
From a stellar tag team performance of “my bestfriend’s ex” with blackbear and Travis Barker, to a well-deserved win for “Best Alternative” for “Bloody Valentine,” it’s safe to say it was a big night for MGK.
How cute is Machine Gun Kelly’s reaction to winning?!

LADY GAGA DOMINATING THE WHOLE DANG SHOW
She came, she saw, she DEVOURED. We can’t even choose our fave Gaga moment because she gave us so many. Between the numerous outfit changes and Gaga gently reminding everyone at home to WEAR 👏 A 👏 MASK 👏 our love for her has quadrupled overnight.
Then there was that transcendent performance of “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande that still has us shook!!!
Oh, and Gaga casually went home with:
- Artist of the Year
- Video of the Year (“Rain On Me”)
- Song of the Year (“Rain On Me”)
- Best Collaboration (“Rain On Me”) with Ariana Grande
