‘Fan Account of the Month’ (#FAOTM) is a fan-appreciation series on UMUSIC!
At UMUSIC, we acknowledge and value the efforts of fans from around the world. The passion, dedication and love fans have for their favourite artists is something the team at UMUSIC has admired for a long time. For this reason, UMUSIC has decided to feature a fan account every month. This will give our UMUSIC community the opportunity to learn about different fandoms, their hardworking members and more about the artists!
Fan account: A social media account created by a fan dedicated to a particular piece of pop culture. This series will focus on fan accounts dedicated to artists.
Update account: A fan-run social media source for fan accounts. An update account serves as the main source of updates on a specific artist. An update account will gather all media, promotional items, and information on an artist and share the information with other fans. Think of update accounts as a constantly updated Wikipedia for fans. This series will also focus on update accounts, which are simply larger fan accounts.

October’s fan account of the month features the Lana del Rey fan account, @lanadelreypictures, that has been updating fans on all things Lana since 2011. Based out of California, meet the account’s administrator, Korina, who’s been posting all the best pictures, updates, fandom art support, event appearances, news, album releases…you name it, she’s on it!
The team at UMUSIC interviewed Korina about what makes them love Lana, their favourite tracks, moments and much more! Below is a collection of their answers…
Why are you a fan of Lana Del Rey?
Mmm. This is a loaded question with so many layers. Evidently, I am a fan because Lana Del Rey has spoken to my soul in many ways ordinary life had and has not. From my teenage years to young adulthood, her voice and vision of how something should sound and then creating a tangible outlet, reveals a spectrum of emotional releases she has brought to many within the fanbase. To connect with struggle, pain, love, soul journey, and growth, is something each and everyone of us could probably connect with and that in itself is magical. Then it comes down to who she is within this industry; she’s created her own path, has spoken her true words, and does not create a pattern in wanting more from the consumers, just wanting to share her heartfelt and life’s work of art. Her connection to source and energy also gravitates many including myself, who also live life to many similar adopted philosophies she has highlighted within her career.
What makes Lana Del Rey so unique?
What makes Lana Del Rey unique is her voice, her connection from personal life to her art pieces that then can be applied across many life paths. Her fascinating chosen sounds that vibrate with layers of instrumentals. Lana looks at music as a literal work of art that has grooves and blending corners filled with the sound of angelic nature. A shapeshifter in the world of music, only on her accounts, when needed or wanted; she’ll always be enigmatic.
What about Lana resonates with you?
Her untraditional life story; also the dipping of her toes in many ideas and inspirations in life and using these blends for what works for her personally. Living and communicating in her truest form, something I work to attain consistently as well. The intention of sound and lyric and how the vibration can speak to your body and mind. I feel it and understand it.
How would you describe her fandom?
The fandom has a pretty large spectrum from LGBTQ+ (my team!), to cultured audiences, to younger tweens to mid-aged adults; all genders. Lana’s followers and lovers of music can absolutely be anyone and continue to grow day by day. I remember only a couple thousand would follow her via twitter and instagram along with a handful of accounts supporting her work or showing up for intimate album listenings, etc. Times have changed and thousands have grown into millions.
When and how did you first discover Lana Del Rey? What was the first song you heard?
I stumbled upon Lana Del Rey’s song “Radio” from her debut album, Born To Die while I was a camper at a summer camp. My friend was “hip” at the time and latched onto unknown but attractive singles and music uprising in the scene, and as a music lover myself, I paid attention while we were in our cabin getting ready or hanging out. “Radio” replayed over and over and I requested that song as my #1 that summer. When I got home and reunited with my technology, I was able to listen to the rest of the album and that summer, I became hooked to the one and only Lana Del Rey and all my friends started to relate me with anything that popped up about her.
What is your favourite track off her new album, Blue Banisters?
It is always hard to just pick one but I would choose “Thunder” and “Nectar of the Gods.” Definitely on replay everyday at the moment.
How would you describe the Blue Banisters era? What do you think is next?
I would describe the Blue Banisters era as classical/folk meets psychedelic rock… moments bring me back to her album, Ultraviolence while the “Interlude – The Trio” brought me back to the Born to Die era. I think it is built with many parts of her life’s perspective as it is a contemplation of a handful of past and present poetry/written songs that have been re-recorded or remastered and previously unpublished. This album really highlighted her talent as she strips the support of features and over powering layers during verses and courses such as; back up singers, large bands, etc. Simply, serene and pastoral, she’s grabbed everyone’s hearts with this album.
Who would you like to see Lana collaborate with in the future?
I think the fandom is waiting on a single with Marina Diamandis (once known as Marina and the Diamonds). I think she could do something different and along her alley of hip/hop, rock, and blues inspired by pairing a track with someone like Masego or someone in the hipster world, but unrelated to a specific genre like BENEE, etc. It would also be very cool if she collaborated with another past star of their time like she has with Stevie Nicks and more.
Do you own any Lana Del Rey merch? If not, is there anything you want to get?
Yes, I have a box full of magazines collected, concert memorabilia, and premiere merchandise such as t-shirts, pins (@topofthepins), lyric books, records, etc. I also had a fan send me her signature from a show and matching apparel Lana had purchased herself. I also have met her sister, Chuck, and her father, Rob. Lastly, when I was at the Tropico premiere in Hollywood — I had waited in line from 7am to 2pm with the 2000 that were accepted and allowed to be part of the showing — I met Lana herself walking into the theatre upon arrival. I am looking forward to the Blue Banister merch to arrive!!
What would you say to Lana if you got to meet her? Or if you’ve already met, what did you say?
If I would be allowed a moment of conversation with Lana Del Rey, I would tell her how proud I am as a fan to have followed the music and creations she has worked on and published the past decade. I’d connect with something about astrology as I know it’s sometimes a language where english is unable to fill. I will be able to describe the truth I see she tries to reveal in her music, and give affirmation she’s healing and guiding others by sharing her story and art. I would be so shaky in my voice, I am not sure much could be relayed properly, but I definitely would give a hug.

The accounts I follow and come off the top of my head as a recommendation would be, @lanadelreysclosets and @ldr_fans. Consistent, respectful, and supportive <3
