Alongside the release, Sydney announces the release of her anxiously awaited forthcoming EP, It Was My First Time, out October 16 via Mercury Records.

No stranger to sharing her story without filter, Sydney’s undeniable and unapologetic honesty underscores “My First Time.” Her vocals tremble as she recalls a high school-era betrayal when she fell in love with a close friend only to be led on and left heartbroken. Soft acoustic guitar chords shudder beneath the weight of her truth, and she laments, “You were my friend and you hurt me.” Facing a formative, yet painful realization, she asks point blank, “How could you not know what you were doing?” Strings accentuate the tears, and piano heightens the emotion. It culminates on a relatable crescendo bound to resonate.
The accompanying visual brings the narrative to life on screen in heartbreakingly vivid fashion.

After a quiet grind, “We Hug Now”powered Sydney’s reintroduction and breakthrough last year, accompanying the release of her critically acclaimed I Know What I Want EP. Billboard praised the collection, noting, “It’s not hard to get wrapped up in Rose’s elegant vocals and knack for conjuring simple, emotionally resonant lyrics in confined spaces.”
“We Hug Now” dominated TikTok with 1.3 million creates and 10 billion cumulative views, climbing into the Top 15 of the TikTok Top Songs Chart. It’s now approaching 250 million global streams and has hit the Top 3 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral 50, the Top 15 of the Shazam US Top Songs Chart, Top 30 on Apple’s US Songs Chart, and Top 20 on the Genius Overall Chart. This fall, the hit track also impressively received a Gold certification from the RIAA.
Sydney also broke into the Top 20 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart and reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Alternative Songs Chart. She’s since surpassed 5 million monthly Spotify listeners and recently made her debut on Spotify’s Top Songs Chart in the U.S.
Last summer, Sydney performed at BST Hyde Park alongside Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams, FINNEAS, and more, while releasing fan favorites “I Stopped Trying” featuring Delaney Bailey and “Before & After You,” inspired by The Last of Us. ABOUT SYDNEY ROSE
Music will always be there for us—especially when we don’t have the words to express what we want to say. Georgia-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist Sydney Rose writes songs for those moments. As she sings, it almost sounds like she’s whispering in your ear, giving you a boost of confidence, offering a little clarity, or just reminding you everything will be okay. Growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta, she picked up ukulele, piano, and guitar. Building an audience organically on social media, she broke through with a viral take on “Turning Page” by Sleeping At Last. It gathered over 67 million Spotify streams, led to her first label deal at 18-years-old, and set the stage for 2022’s You Never Met Me EP. A year later, she unveiled her debut LP, One Sided, highlighted by “You’d Be Stars” [feat. Chloe Moriondo]. She received co-signs courtesy of everyone from Olivia Rodrigo and Addison Grace who invited her on tour. In the Fall of 2024, Sydney found herself unexpectedly released by her label.
