DIVINE BROWN DEBUTS FIRST SINGLE “GONE” JULY 23

FULL ALBUM SOMETHING FRESH SET FOR RELEASE FALL 2012

Toronto, ON (July 23, 2012) – Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company is proud to announce that Toronto native and Soul/R&B sensation, Divine Brown is back after a three year hiatus with the release of her first single “Gone” from her upcoming album, Something Fresh which is slated for release in fall 2012. As the first track on the album, “Gone” kicks off with a 60’s R&B flavoured “Boy, you done me wrong” number characterized by rhythm piano and sprightly horn charts. Today marks the radio release date of “Gone,” while the iTunes digital version of the single will be available to fans from July 24.   Following the success of Divine’s past singles including “Old Skool Love” (2005) and “Lay It on the Line” (2009), Divine wanted to kick off Something Fresh with a track that encompassed her classic style, while still remaining fresh, exciting and contemporary. The entire album cloaks Divine’s essential romanticism in an inspired array of musical settings and classic soul styles.   Divine’s first album, Divine Brown (2005) launched her career and secured the attention of music fans and R&B/Soul junkies around the globe, while reaching Gold certification later that year. Her second album, The Love Chronicles (2008) proved her successes further by winning the Juno® Award for Best R&B Album in 2009. Growing up in a working class Jamaican family, Divine has a fearless approach and steadfast commitment to music. This, along with her impressive 5-octave vocal range, has earned her numerous nominations for Juno® Awards, SOBA Awards and MuchMusic Video Awards to name a few.   On August 6, Divine is scheduled to play at JAMBANA™ at Downsview Park in Toronto, where she will perform her new single, “Gone” and reggae versions of some of her hit songs. JAMBANA™ has been designated the Canadian official celebratory event, by the Government of Jamaica, in commemoration of Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence.   To view the lyrical version of “Gone, visit: www.divinebrown.com
