STAR SETS SPOTIFY RECORD FOR MOST STREAMS BY A FEMALE ARTIST IN 2014

05 SEPTEMBER 2014 (Toronto, ON) Ariana Grande’s My Everything, released via Republic Records / Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, is the #1 album in the world right now. The award-winning superstar’s second full-length album captured the #1 spot on both the Canadian Nelisen Soundscan chart and Billboard Top 200, was #1 on iTunes in over 85 countries worldwide, and #1 on Spotify, with digital streaming services yielding over 200 million streams. The combined digital video views from this album have surpassed 300 million, while the combined digital tracks have exceeded six million. This week, Ariana became the #1 artist on Spotify and #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 Chart. Less than a year ago, her major label debut Yours Truly topped the Billboard Top 200 at #1, and she now returns to that spot. It’s truly a historical week for the artist. Spotify, who called Ariana the “most-streamed artist in the world”, saw My Everything receive over 38 million streams globally during release week. Ariana breaks the record for the highest streaming debut week of 2014 for a female on Spotify. Plus, "Problem" [featuring Iggy Azalea], "Break Free" [featuring Zedd], and "Bang Bang" with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J all held strong in the Global Spotify Top 10. Ariana kicked off last week by opening up the MTV VMAs with a performance of her single “Break Free” before delivering the television debut of her latest smash “Bang Bang” alongside Nicki Minaj and Jessie J. That same night, she took home “Best Pop Music Video” for her multi-platinum record-setting hit “Problem”. My Everything became available at midnight shortly after the VMAs and it vaulted to #1 on iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart. Ariana currently graces the cover of Seventeen Magazine, and was featured on the cover of Billboard album release week. Be on the lookout for some very big tour news soon. “Problem” first set the stage for My Everything in May. It achieved astounding first-week sales of 435,000-plus in the US, at the time making for the biggest single debut of the year and currently the fifth highest for a female artist ever. She also becomes the “Youngest Woman to Debut with More Than 400,000 Downloads”, and it’s now the ninth highest digital song debut of all-time. In SoundScan history, it remains one of only ten tracks to debut with over 400,000 digital downloads during its release week. Meanwhile, it arrived at #1 on Billboard's Digital Songs Chart and vaulted to #1 on iTunes in over 65 countries. At the 2014 Teen Choice Awards, Ariana took home the honours of “Choice Female Artist” and “Choice Single” for “Problem”.  At the 2014 MTV VMAS, “Problem” was named “Best Pop Video” as well. In 2014, she also became the first woman in history and the first artist since Michael Jackson to simultaneously have three songs in the Top 6 of the Digital Songs Chart.
