MOLLY JOHNSON ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM, MEANING TO TELL YA, OUT MAY 11

CANADIAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

“This is the record I have been waiting to make for years.” – Molly Johnson

“She is a rare and wonderful talent.” – Larry Klein (Producer)

06 APRIL 2018 (Toronto, ON) – Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Molly Johnson returns with a stunning new look, and brand-new album, Meaning To Tell Ya set to release on May 11 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Available now for pre-order, Johnson produced the album alongside Grammy Award-winning producer, Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman).

Meaning To Tell Ya sees Molly at her best, featuring 10 newly recorded songs including 7 originals and 3 amazing interpretations of classic tracks selected by Molly and Larry Klein.

“Working with Larry Klein was magic. When it was finally my turn, I jumped at the opportunity. I can’t wait to share it with everyone,” Molly describes making the record with Klein, “It’s funk, it’s soul, it’s groove.”

“Molly has the kind of musical gift that cannot be cultivated by musical education or assiduous practice,” shares Klein. “She has great natural musical instincts, and an irresistible signature to her voice.”

The current single and first instant grat track, “Inner City Blues” (Marvin Gaye) released earlier this year along with its accompanying music video, was written as a powerful social commentary that still speaks to the current issues of today. The track was recorded at the Orange Lounge Studio (Toronto) with additional recording at Strange Cargo (Los Angeles).  Johnson’s rendition features her soulful vocals, along with brilliant instrumentals from Davide DiRenzo (drums), Justin Abedin (guitar), Robi Botos (electric piano), Mike Downes (bass), Pete Kuzma (organ).  Included on the album is “Boogie Street” (Leonard Cohen), which is the second instant grat track available today and “Lady Day and John Coltrane” (Gil Scott-Heron).

Molly is set to hit the road this summer for a string of live performances across Canada in support of the new album.  Dates include headlining shows at Montreal Jazz Festival and the Halifax Jazz Festival. Full list of dates below.
