08 DECEMBER 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Canadian global breakout pop sensation Alx Veliz releases a brand-new single, Higher, via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Also out now, is the accompanying music video directed by Baxter Stapleton, which heightens the track’s savvy combination of dance floor-filling pop and smooth grooves. Available to stream/download at all participating digital retailers, the new track follows Alx’s summer single, “Duele” (Hurts Me To Love You). Watch the music video below.

Directed by Baxter Stapleton, the video was filmed in Palm Springs.

On the new track, Alx hopes to communicate a specific message to his audience. “Higher” perfectly portrays optimistic lyrics and themes of hope, underpinned by a sound with substance. “We filmed the video higher in two locations,” says Veliz. “One being the desert which metaphorically represented a before love in the sense that the desert signifies heat, thirst and struggle. The other location was the water Oasis I found after encountering true love representing hope, peace and elevation.”

Discussing the track itself, Alx notes, “When I wrote ‘Higher’ I wanted to channel my spiritual church upbringing and share a little bit of my testimony. I wanted to write a song that showcased those moments that forever marked a before and after in our lives.”

He continues, “I wanted to share my experience with my fans because like myself I know there are a lot of people that are going through hard times and need an uplifting song of hope. So, I wrote ‘Higher’ for all those who are going through a dark moment in their life to let them know, "your brighter day is yet to come. For some it may be a spiritual encounter, for others it may be a new relationship, just keep your eyes open because you never know what that life changing moment looks like.”

Illuminating these themes of optimism, assurance and spirituality, is the “Higher” music video.

Alx has been charming audiences around the world since the release of his debut EP Love Has No Language (April 2016) which included his international chart-topping single “Dancing Kizomba”. The single has amassed over 60 million streams with an international radio story and multiple sales certifications across the globe.  Most recently, the song was praised back home, after receiving a SOCAN Award under the Dance Music category.

The story of Alx Veliz is an uncommon one.  Making headway as a producer and songwriter for other artists, he was prodded to center stage by his A&R team.  His unique sound reflects his multicultural home, Toronto, drawing on diverse influences from samba and salsa to reggae, hip-hop, and the king of pop, Michael Jackson. This savvy combination of dance floor-filling pop and smooth grooves underpins a sound with substance, setting Veliz apart from other artists in his genre.
