Latest Album, Amore, and New DVD, The Magic of Maastricht – 30 Years of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, featuring David Hasselhoff, Coming November 24

25 October 2017 (Toronto, ON)André Rieu, the world’s best-selling violinist, today announces the upcoming releases of his latest album, Amore, and DVD, The Magic of Maastricht – 30 Years of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, to be released November 24 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

Ahead of the new releases, award-winning Dutch violinist André Rieu has passed an extraordinary milestone: the popular maestro now boasts over 500 Platinum Awards to his name. With Platinum certificates ranging from Argentina to Australia, Brazil to Belgium, France to South Africa and Germany to the UK, the world-renowned musician and orchestra leader remains one of today’s most prolific and productive artists, recording both on the road and in his hometown studio in Maastricht, Netherlands.

In addition, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Maestro Rieu founding his Johann Strauss Orchestra. Formed in 1987, the waltz-playing orchestra gave its first concert on New Year’s Day the following year and now regularly performs up to 100 shows a year including their annual summer residency in Maastricht. Audiences at this year’s concerts were thrilled by the surprise appearance of ‘80s icon David Hasselhoff as special guest singer. As the orchestra struck-up the theme to Knight Rider, KITT arrived on stage and out stepped “The Hoff” to join the party and sing “Looking For Freedom”, “Love Me Tender” and “Paloma Blanca”. Footage of these performances is included in the upcoming DVD release of live performances by Rieu and his Johann Strauss orchestra.

Finally, the inspiration behind Rieu’s music and orchestra, Johann Strauss II’s “The Blue Danube”, celebrates 150 years this year and remains one of the most popular pieces of classical music ever written. First performed in 1867 by the Vienna Men’s Choral Association, this much-loved work (adapted by Strauss into a purely orchestral work for that year’s EXPO in Paris) remains at the heart of André Rieu’s mission to bring classical music to as wide an audience as possible. To this day, each and every concert guarantees a performance of this classical music evergreen.

“My heart continues to beat in 3/4 time for Strauss’s music and my beloved orchestra,” says Rieu. “As long as there is music in this world, we can continue to hope for happiness, love, and the chance of peace.”
