6 MARCH 2026 (TORONTO, ON) – Two of Canada’s most celebrated voices come together as Molly Johnson and Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo release a powerful new interpretation of The Tragically Hip’s “Long Time Running,” available everywhere now via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

Originally released on February 19, 1991, the song remains a cornerstone of the Canadian musical canon. Thirty-five years later, Johnson and Cuddy revisit the beloved anthem with a rendition that is intimate, soulful and deeply reverent, honouring its legacy while revealing new emotional depth.

Recorded at Blue Rodeo’s Woodshed Studio, the single brings together Johnson’s long-time trio — Davide Di Renzo (drums), Mike Downes (bass) and Robi Botos (piano) — along with special guest Jimmy Bowskill on guitar. The track was engineered by Tim Vesely, mixed by John “Beetle” Bailey, and produced by Davide Di Renzo.

Johnson’s unmistakable voice, soulful and commanding, moves through the song’s timeless lyrics with grace and clarity. Cuddy’s harmonies anchor the track in a shared Canadian lineage. The result is a collaboration that feels both historic and personal, a meeting of artists who have each helped define the country’s musical identity, and a heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of The Tragically Hip.

About the new release, Molly Johnson says, “This has been a long time coming. I’ve always wanted to record a duet with Jim. We’ve been friends for years, so to finally collaborate on a song by our beloved The Tragically Hip feels like real magic.”

Unsurprisingly, Molly is a laureate of multiple notable awards, including two JUNO Awards, the Governor General’s Award, the Order of Canada, and the Chevalier Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Outside her musical endeavors, Molly is also an avid supporter and patron of the arts. She launched the Kumbaya Festival in 1993 benefitting AIDS hospices and Canadians living with AIDS, contributing directly to the birth of Toronto’s Casey House. Kumbaya remains the largest music fundraiser in Canadian history. As the founding artistic director of Toronto’s Kensington Market Jazz Festival, Molly has introduced hundreds of performers and, in her own words, built a “local jazz festival that reflects the cultural depth” of the immediate music community.

Cuddy recently reached a new pinnacle in his songwriting career when he and longtime partner Greg Keelor were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame—a milestone that led into Blue Rodeo’s 40th anniversary and the release of the career-spanning documentary Blue Rodeo: Lost Together.  Whether performing with the Jim Cuddy Band or fronting one of the country’s most iconic groups, Cuddy remains a vital and prolific presence in Canadian music.
