02 JUNE 2023 (TORONTO, ON) – Izzy-S, renowned Montréal rap star, offers his latest new single “À contresens” today via Universal Music Canada/Maison Barclay Canada. The track begins with Amay Laoni’s chorus over a beautiful piano-driven melody before Izzy-S drifts into his first verse, rapping about his drive to succeed and why he doesn’t believe in fairy tale endings. “You won’t understand my addiction when I speak about making millions,” raps Izzy. “But you would understand if you grew up in my neighbourhood.”
Raised in a tough corner of the St-Michel neighbourhood of Montréal, it has always been a major goal for Izzy-S to take care of his family and move them to a safer zone. Through his success in music, he has been able to provide for himself and his family, and in “À contresens”, he tells a story of how the streets raised him, overcoming obstacles and keeping his head high despite anything that comes his way.
“With this single, I stepped out of my comfort zone by taking more risks than usual,” says Izzy-S about his collaboration with Amay Laoni.
The song, produced by Gary Wide (La Zarra, Rymz) and Amélie Fortin, marks the first release from Izzy-S since January’s “Mérité” with Shreez. Last year, Izzy continued his breakthrough success with stand-out singles including “Allo c’est qui?”, “Jacuzzi”, “Mon canon”, and “Semelles rouges”. He also performed at the inaugural Legacy Awards, the first major Canadian award show to celebrate Black Canadian talent. More music and other surprises are on the way from the brilliant rapper before the end of this year.
