22 NOVEMBER 2019 (TORONTO, ON) - Off the back of last week’s triumphant trio of sold out headline shows at London’s OMEARA, and with a Shepherd’s Bush Empire date recently announced for April 2020, ascendant UK soul singer Celeste shares her recent performance with the legendary British singer-songwriter and musician Paul Weller. The pair – both huge fans of each other – perform one of Weller’s best-loved hits "You Do Something To Me" with Weller on piano and both artists on vocals, a stunning 2019 reimagination of a classic song that was originally released in 1995 on Weller’s third solo album Stanley Road. Celeste’s OMEARA shows received rave reviews across the board with NME awarding her 5*, hailing the Brighton-raised, British-Jamaican artist "a once-in-a-generation talent ... the finest British soul singer to emerge in years," continuing, "If there's any justice, super-stardom is just around the corner." As the year draws to a close, it’s safe to say Celeste has had a pretty incredible 2019 with notable festival dates across Europe including her debut appearances at Glastonbury, Primavera, Field Day and Latitude, not to mention supporting the iconic Neneh Cherry in her hometown of Brighton and US superstar Janelle Monae in Berlin. NME hailed Celeste’s midnight set at Primavera “spellbinding,” noting that she “showcased a voice like crushed velvet, that caressed a succession of jazz-tinged instrumentals with seemingly effortless ease. Next year she’ll be on a much, much bigger stage.”
Celeste’s current single ‘Strange’ – recently added to the BBC Radio 1 B-list – launched with a spinetingling COLORS session and saw support from the likes of Clara Amfo, DJ Target and Annie Mac, who exclaimed “Such a beautiful record, I can imagine a lot of people being stopped in their tracks right now." The release followed the enthralling ‘Coco Blood,’ accompanied by a colour-drenched video shot in Jamaica by in-demand director Crackstevens aka Akinola Davies Jr (Blood Orange, Neneh Cherry), and her breakout Lately EP, a captivating introduction to her voice and artistry.
With accolades coming in left, right and centre, having just been announced as one of the VEVO DSCVR Ones To Watch and MTV Push Ones To Watch for 2020, this is only the beginning for Celeste.
