“d4vd thrives on subverting expectations and rewriting the rulebook, one DIY hit at a time”

“For some, a teenage boy’s dark room just might be the scariest place on Earth. But for d4vd, that’s where greatness is made.”

Interview Magazine

“part of the next generation of savvy superstars”

“primed to be one the biggest breakout acts this year”

Stardom sits beautifully on d4vd’s skin, as his melancholic ballads go from being recorded in his sister’s closet to being shouted back at him by a sea of fans.”

Ones To Watch

8 SEPTEMBER 2023 (TORONTO, ON) — Today, 18-year-old artist d4vd releases The Lost Petals EP via The Darkroom/Interscope/Universal Music Canada (LISTEN HERE). He couples the project with a new animated video for his song “Rehab” (WATCH HERE).

Following the release of his debut EP, Petals To Thorns, a masterful nine-track project with breakthrough hits including grungy, guitar-driven breakup anthem RIAA Multi-Platinum “Romantic Homicide,” and RIAA Platinum “Here With Me,” d4vd complements the project with a follow-up EP The Lost Petals. The five song collection fits into the world of Petals to Thorns and serves as a continuation of that project. These tracks represent a similar time in d4vd's creative process that he wants to share with fans before moving into his next phase of music. He first teased the EP with the release of “Notes From A Wrist,” an homage to a friend who struggled with mental health (WATCH HERE / LISTEN HERE). Overall, The Lost Petals offers a more intimate and stripped-down glimpse at d4vd’s artistry than ever before.

To complement the EP, d4vd also unveils an anime video for “Rehab” directed by Tristan Zammit and written by Raheem Powell and d4vd himself. It follows a similar theme as his last anime-inspired video “Romantic Homicide - Introducing IT4MI” capturing a battle between d4vd and his alter ego IT4MI – adorned in his signature bandaged look – as they’re vying for the same love interest. “Itami” means pain in Japanese and represents the hurt felt in d4vd’s universe.

The Lost Petals EP Tracklist:

  1. Notes From A Wrist
  2. Hollow Prayers
  3. Rehab
  4. Poetic Vulgarity
  5. Once More

d4vd recently received a Streamy Award Nomination for “Here With Me” in the “Rolling Stone Sound of the Year” category. Earlier this year, he was honored as part of Billboard’s 21 under 21 and Variety’s Young Hollywood Impact Report lists. As part of their ‘Bummer Summer’ campaign, Spotify installed a d4vd statue in his hometown of Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park.

About d4vd:

d4vd, born David Burke, emerged as a visionary artist only one year after he began writing and recording heart-piercing tracks alone in his sister's closet in Houston, Texas. d4vd gained his now-eclectic taste in rap and indie music from internet wormholes and fan-made Fortnite videos on YouTube, which he also started creating as a homeschooled teenager. As an avid player who has amassed over fifty thousand subscribers on his gaming channel, he noticed that the songs in his game montages were getting copyright strikes, and his mother suggested that he should write his own original music as a solution. This motivated d4vd to start recording his own tracks after discovering an easy-to-use music-making app called BandLab. He’s released a smattering of singles touching everything from indie-alternative to pop to R&B, and the 18-year-old scored a breakout hit in the summer of 2022 with the now RIAA Multi-Platinum certified melancholic indie rock song “Romantic Homicide.” Recorded entirely on an iPhone, the track reached No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and led to him signing to Darkroom/Interscope before d4vd even graduated high school. His slow-building beachy ballad, “Here With Me” followed suit, breaking into the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2023 and quickly becoming RIAA Platinum Certified. Petals To Thorns, d4vd’s debut EP establishes him as a genre-defying newcomer. His intuitive command of lyricism stems from his years of scribbling raps and poems in his journal since childhood and his versatile interests shine in his music, drawing primarily from manga for his “real and grounded” narratives. The EP establishes d4vd as one of the best new emerging acts, corroborated by his recent Billboard 21 Under 21 and Variety Young Hollywood honors. Following on the heels of his spring headline The Root of it All debut tour, which sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale, and a successful run of sold-out European tour dates, d4vd brought his Petals To Thorns tour to larger stages in the US than ever before. In the midst of his European run, d4vd also put on a show-stopping performance at the Valentino Men’s SS24 Fashion Week show in Milan. Next, he complements his debut EP with his new follow-up The Lost Petals via Darkroom/Interscope out today.
