DAYA RELEASES NEW TRACK, “SAFE”, WITH LYRIC VIDEO TODAY

22 June 2018 (Toronto, ON) - Nineteen-year-old multi-platinum singer/songwriter DAYA is back with the emotionally poignant song “Safe”, via Interscope Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Listen to the brand-new track HERE.

Daya and co-writers Laleh and Joel Little (he also produced the track) penned the song the day after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas last fall, channeling their sense of grief and processing into a track that harkens back to a nostalgic time when the world seemed more innocent.

On the lyrics and inspiration behind the track, Daya reflects:

“‘Safe’ was written the day after the Vegas shooting – I felt powerless and lost in trying to wrap my head around how such a senseless act could be possible. There was this raging discomfort, this endless pit in my stomach as I saw again the irrefutable proof of evil in our world. I can’t speak for everyone’s childhood because everyone has different experiences, but where I grew up, there was an illusion and sense of safety… a feeling of invincibility where the only horror stories were well-crafted fictional movies or books. The sad reality though, is that there are antagonists in society trying to build their own real-life horror stories that seem to be happening more frequently in traditionally safe spaces, like a festival or a high school. We’re all being forced to recognize the proximity of evil and how easily it could affect us or someone we love. This song is me wishing I could just wrap a blanket of safety around myself and the people I love.”

The lyric video for “Safe” is composed entirely of VHS footage to create various video backgrounds and textures. A full music video for the song is coming soon. Watch the lyric video HERE.

“Safe” is Daya’s first new song since the release of “New” in October 2017 after signing with Interscope Records last summer. Her vocals were most recently featured on R.L. Grime’s single, “I Wanna Know”.  Next up, Daya can be seen live with a special performance at the Special Olympics and stops at Lollapalooza and the Billboard Hot 100 Festival.
