GABRIELLE SHONK ANNOUNCES SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 29
DEBUTS NEW TRACK “RAINDROPS” WITH W MAGAZINE
“Shonk sounds like an amalgamation of the past 20 years of star female songstresses ...”
18 August 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Last year, Quebec indie-folk singer/songwriter Gabrielle Shonk self-released her first single “Habit”. The track spread like wildfire, grabbing the attention of VICE’s Noisey who likened Shonk’s vocals to a mix of Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple and Amy Winehouse. Today, Shonk is debuting a new track “Raindrops” via W Magazine from her highly anticipated self-titled debut album set to release September 29 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

Gabrielle Shonk’s debut album is announced on the heels of her recently released Habit single package, which includes the original single (“habit” currently has over one million streams on Spotify, and the track’s music video has 154k views and counting), an acoustic version of the track, and brand new French single, “Trop Tard”. Although this is Shonk’s first record, she’s been writing songs since she was fourteen years old. "Sometimes the sound of a guitar on a recording inspires me to write a song,” Shonk explains. “Before chords or lyrics, I begin with a melody. This record is just pretty personal and sums up a bunch of musical influences and songs I’ve carried over the years,” Shonk explains. The album was produced by Simon Pedneault at Wild Studio, La Strip, Planet Studios, and Studio Dandurand in Canada.
Gabrielle Shonk is the natural product of a creative household, raised by a blues-musician father and artist mother in Quebec City. She started singing at a very young age and began writing her own songs as a teenager, soulfully guided by favorites such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, and Tracy Chapman. Singing in both English and French, music quickly became Shonk’s universal language. Her musical craft took hold as she went on to study Jazz in University, where she later earned a degree in music. Shonk recently opened for fellow Canadian singer/songwriter Bobby Bazini as well as Rag N Bone Man, Hannah Georgas, Milky Chance and P!nk. This summer, she’s performed at Montreal Jazz Festival, WayHome Festival, and is currently in the middle of a North American tour. See full list of tour dates below.
