GABRIELLE SHONK RELEASES ACOUSTIC VERSION OF “RAINDROPS”

27 April 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Quebec indie-folk singer/songwriter Gabrielle Shonk releases the new acoustic single, “Raindrops (Acoustic)” today via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The stripped back rendition of the song arrives on the heels of the music video release for the original track, “Raindrops”, which premiered on POPDUST earlier this month.

“Raindrops (Acoustic)” follows up Shonk’s self-titled debut album, released in September 2017. In addition to the original version of “Raindrops”, album highlights include the French single, “Trop Tard” and early standout, “Habit”. Self-released in 2017 as her first official single, “Habit” spread like wildfire, grabbing the attention of VICE’s Noisey who likened Shonk’s vocals to a mix of Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple and Amy Winehouse. Since its release, the track has already garnered over 1 million streams on Spotify, and music video has 200k views and counting.

Shonk is the natural product of a creative household, raised by a blues-musician father and artist mother in Quebec City. She started singing at a very young age and began writing her own songs as a teenager, soulfully guided by favourites such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, and Tracy Chapman. Singing in both English and French, music quickly became Shonk’s universal language. Her musical craft took hold as she went on to study Jazz in University, where she later earned a degree in music. After completing a string of live dates in support of Dashboard Confessional, Shonk recently announced that she is set to perform later this summer, at the 2018 Field Trip Festival in Toronto, and the 2018 Regina Folk Fest in Regina.
