JACOB BANKS’ “IN THE NAME OF LOVE” FROM MAJOR MOTION PICTURE THE EQUALIZER 2 OUT NOW

11 July 2018 (Toronto, ON) - Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Jacob Banks’ brand-new track “In the Name of Love” is featured in the upcoming Sony Pictures film The Equalizer 2, in theaters July 20. The triumphant track, written by Jacob and produced by Oak (Miguel, Kehlani, Alicia Keys, Alessia Cara), showcases Jacob’s powerful vocals as he reflects on the sacrifices made for love. The Equalizer 2 stars Denzel Washington and is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who states “‘In the Name of Love’ has a beautiful and important message about love that reflects exactly what our world needs to hear today. The lyrics cut deep and Jacob’s vocals are unmatched.  It gives me great pride to have this song included in the motion picture The Equalizer 2. I know audiences will be moved by its emotional impact in the film.” “In the Name of Love” is available now via Interscope Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. “We’re thrilled that Jacob Banks is lending his incredible talent, voice, and songwriting skills to the movie.  It’s a perfect counterpoint to the intense, visceral action of the film – it’s anthemic and hits close to home as McCall’s fight for justice becomes a very personal one,” added Spring Aspers, Head of Music for Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

Earlier this year, Jacob made his Coachella debut and performed at Sasquatch, BottleRock, and Shaky Knees. He will return to the U.S. for performances at Brooklyn’s AFROPUNK Festival and Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival following a series of international dates. Jacob has previously played major festivals Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly and The Meadows, among others, with The New York Times naming Jacob one of “12 Notable Acts” at SXSW.

Current single “Unknown (To You)” has amassed over 10 million streams, and Jacob recently made his U.S. television debut performing the track on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Jacob has received critical praise everywhere from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Billboard to VogueNYLONPAPER, and The FADER, with TIME declaring Jacob a “rising Nigerian-born British star whose soulful voice and incisive production will get under your skin from the first listen.”

Jacob is currently recording his debut full-length album.
