PhoneCalls

"Jessie Reyez is the epitome of a raw and uncensored artist” - PIGEONS AND PLANES

“Jessie Reyez’ realness will not be diluted” - SPIN

“Toronto’s next breakout act” – NOISEY

16 October 2017 (Toronto, ON) –Toronto-based singer and songwriter Jessie Reyez shares brand new track “Phone Calls”, out now via Polydor Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. In an unprecedented move the track received a dual premiere across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra as both Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World and MistaJam’s Jam Hot, which saw Mac hail Jessie a “formidable lady”.

Over eerily stripped-back production and skittering hip hop beats, Jessie – who describes her rebellious, genreless sound as “Quentin Tarantino music” – exhorts fake friends to step aside for the real ones. In her own words, "This song is a thank you to my day ones and to my riders who believe in me. It's also a f*** you to the phonies."

Jessie has had one hell of a year, with the release of her debut EP, Kiddo, dropping in April to widespread acclaim. She first broke out last summer with her track “Figures”, a gorgeous pared-back acoustic number accompanied by an emotional video that premiered on The FADER. The track quickly exploded online and thrust Reyez into the spotlight – to date the video has been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube and the track peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Top 100, with over 20 million Spotify streams and counting.

With her short film “Gatekeeper” and song of the same name she exposed industry sexism and predatory misogynists, receiving widespread coverage from media including Noisey, Complex, Pigeons and Planes, W Magazine, Jezebel and more. Her single “Shutter Island” reached the B-list on BBC 1Xtra and the claustrophobic video has amassed over 3.2 million views, receiving support from Annie Mac, MistaJam, Phil Taggart, Manny Norte, Toddla T, Target, A.Dot, Ace, Jamz Supernova, Charlie Sloth and more.

Off the back of her explosive BET Awards performance in June, Jessie became the number one trending artist on Apple Music, catapulting “Figures” to number three on the R&B Chart. In August, she made her TV debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. More recently, Jessie has been selected as the current Global VEVO LIFT artist, with a host of video content dropping around this including a short documentary titled ‘Becoming’, which explores her Colombian and Canadian roots – view HERE.

All of this success led to Jessie collaborating with superstar producer Calvin Harris on “Hard to Love” for his recent album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. The video, shot in Paris and viewable HERE, is now up to 15 million views.

During her live shows, Jessie manages to be funny, captivating, heartbreaking and powerful all at once. She sold out her first London headline show this summer, attended by Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris and more. Alessia Cara joined her on stage at her hometown show in Toronto which sold out in just three days. Jessie was recently announced as the main support for PartyNextDoor’s 2018 European ‘Infinity’ tour, which will take place in February and March.

2018, Jessie Reyez is coming for you.
