The track is an emotionally raw and empowering break-up anthem steeped in confidence, braggadocio, and payback. "Ankles" follows yesterday's release of "Love in the Dark" (Dzeko Remix). Reyez recently made her debut appearance on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, where she joined Trevor as a couch guest and explained the exploration of love, heartbreak, and pain that has charged her sad songwriting. She explains," I feel like in life when you're conscious of the fact that highs and lows, black and whites, ups and downs have to exist, then sad songs have a little bit of love and even love songs have a little bit of sadness 'cause you know that love can't last, 'cause nobody gets out of love alive."
