Wednesday, 4 April, 2012 (Toronto, ON)

- Island Def Jam/Universal Music Canada superstar Justin Bieber has set two new records with his brand new single, "Boyfriend", which debuted at #1 on the Nielsen SoundScan Canada Digital Songs Chart today. With sales of 54,655 copies, “Boyfriend” sets the record for the highest first week sales ever for a digital song in Canada, as well as the record for the highest single week sales ever. The previous record holder was Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”, (2011) which sold 44,382 digital copies during its first week of release, followed by highest single week ever sales in its second week with 52,705.

"Boyfriend" also has the top debut at CHR/Top 40 radio at #20. This already matches his best chart peak at the format, previously reached twice, with "One Time" and "Baby", and is the best debut on the chart by any artist since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" entered at #16 (Feb 2011) and the best debut by a Canadian artist since Young Artists For Haiti's "Wavin' Flag" landed at #15 (March 2010).

"Boyfriend" is the first single from BELIEVE, Bieber’s eagerly anticipated new studio album, set for release this summer. "Boyfriend" was written by Justin Bieber, Mike Posner, Mason D. Levy and Mat Musto; and produced by Mason D. Levy and Mike Posner.

Bieber won the coveted Fans Choice Award this past weekend at the 2012 Juno Awards.
