30 AUGUST 2019 (TORONTO, ON) - Lang Lang has taken to the stage at Beijing’s iconic Water Cube to deliver a stunning performance as part of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Opening Ceremony, broadcast to over a billion around the world. He was joined by artists of the China National Peking Opera Company, wearing traditional costume and masks, as well as musicians performing on Chinese instruments.

The piece they performed is called "Heaven in Ceaseless Motion, Human in Constant Exertion" and it is available digitally now (https://dg.lnk.to/FIBA). It is specially arranged by Zhu Jiang and Guo Susite from ancient Chinese melodies and blends the sound of Lang Lang’s piano with traditional Chinese instruments and voices. The lyrics are by Jia Ding, director of the opening ceremony. They recorded the track earlier this month for Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music Canada.

Lang Lang’s most recent album for the Yellow Label, Piano Book, continues to dominate the classical charts. His recording of Beethoven’s Für Elise entered the pop charts in Germany and China and has expanded the pianist’s already vast global audience. ‘Heaven in Ceaseless Motion, Human in Constant Exertion’ is a surprise new track which underlines Lang Lang’s passion for piano music of all kinds and his joy in spreading it to audiences around the world.
