22 AUGUST 2025 (TORONTO, ON) – Molly Johnson – one of Canada’s all-time greatest vocalists – releases a new single “All I See” today featuring multi-instrumentalist artist CUBE via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.
The stand-alone single was produced by CUBE and John “Beetle” Bailey and features instrumentation from Molly Johnson’s long-time trio: Davide Di Renzo on drums, Mike Downes on bass, and Robi Botos on piano. CUBE also provides background vocals.
“What does a 66-year-old woman and a 20-year-old kid have in common? A real love of great music,” says Johnson about working with CUBE. “Collaborating with CUBE was inspiring and meaningful. I feel confident that the future of music is in good hands with this new generation and I’m so excited that I get to be a part of it. The future, it looks bright to me.”
CUBE adds: “’All I See’ bridges two eras I’m deeply inspired by: the classics and the modern. That connection has defined our approach from the start and is what I’ve enjoyed most about creating together. Molly is open, curious, and effortlessly cool. Our sessions felt like a real exchange. I got to learn from her world, and she got a glimpse into what makes me so excited about ours today.”
“All I See” – Johnson’s first new music of 2025 – offers a fresh contemporary neo-soul flavour that gives fans a hint of what’s to come from her current era. Last month, Johnson appeared on CTV’s Battle of the Generations game show and in September, she takes on her annual duties at the Kensington Market Jazz Festival as the founding artistic director. Tonight, she performs at the Port Hope United Church with her quartet where she is championing the Fare Share Food Bank and the Rose Quest Personal Care Initiative.
The 6-time JUNO Award nominee and 2-time winner started her career in the mid-1960s as a child star, working alongside her brother, Clark Johnson, for legendary Toronto producer Ed Mirvish and appearing in Porgy and Bess, Finian’s Rainbow, and other musicals. She enrolled at the National Ballet School and aspired to become a choreographer.
Johnson went on to become the lead vocalist in two punk-rock bands: Alta Moda in the 1980s and Infidel in the 1990s. She became the first female vocalist in the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival’s 17-year history to sell out a show on the mainstage. She has sung aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia before Prince Charles and Princess Diana and has performed for Nelson Mandela and Quincy Jones.
In addition to new music, Johnson is currently working on The Black History Project: Canada – an initiative she started to update Canadian history to include its impact and involvement with regards to Black Canadian history and the Underground Railroad.
Stay tuned for more exciting announcements and new music from Molly Johnson.
