26 SEPTEMBER 2025 (TORONTO, ON) – Today, legendary Québécois folk singer-songwriter Michel Rivard releases his first two solo albums – Méfiez-vous du grand amour and De Longueuil à Berlin – digitally for the first time ever via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Remastered physical variants are also available now in CD and LP format.

These two releases come one month before the release of the songwriter's new original album, Après, on va où?, on October 31. The album will be accompanied by a namesake tour, combining music and theatre, across Québec and will premiere in spring 2026 at the Centre du Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui in Montréal. Buy tickets HERE.

Méfiez-vous du grand amour and De Longueuil à Berlin – initially released via Capitol Records in 1977 and 1979, respectively – are available across all digital platforms as of today.

One of the founding members of Québec’s iconic folk band Beau Dommage, Rivard released Méfiez-vous du grand amour ahead of the group’s Passagers album in 1977. Several of the band’s members contributed to the album, including Réal Desrosiers and Michel Hinton, in addition to Octobre’s Mario Légaré, singer-songwriter Maxime Le Forestier, and jazz double-bass player Michel Donato. The vinyl is packaged in a single jacket with a printed inner sleeve, and the CD is housed in a digipak with an eight-page booklet. De Longueuil à Berlin, Rivard’s second solo album, is available today on vinyl in a gatefold jacket with a printed inner sleeve, and on CD in a digipak with an eight-page booklet.

Both albums have been restored from their original tapes, and they each stay true to the original artworks.

ABOUT MICHEL RIVARD:

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, TV host, and even comedian in his spare time, Michel Rivard has established himself over the past 40 years as one of the most fascinating creators on the Montréal cultural scene. In the wake of Leclerc, Vigneault and Ferland, this all-around artist has helped to advance Québecois music towards new horizons, co-pioneering contemporary urban folk.

With songs including “Le blues d'la Métropole,” “La complainte du phoque en Alaska,” “Ginette,” “Le retour de Don Quichotte,” “Je voudrais voir la mer,” “Un trou dans les nuages,” “Tout simplement jaloux,” “Rive-sud,” “Maudit bonheur,” “Toujours vivant” (for  Gerry Boulet), “Entre Matane et Bâton-Rouge” (for Isabelle Boulay), and more, Michel Rivard's many classics are a powerful testament to his status as a leading songwriter who has earned numerous awards in Canada and in Europe. From Beau Dommage to his many solo albums, including his important collaborations, the Ligue nationale d'improvisation, film music (Les matins infidèles, Histoires d'hiver, etc.), the ADISQ Galas, his numerous roles in cinema and theatre (Art, Les Variations énigmatiques), he continues to apply, with undeniable success, a very personal vision and style to a remarkable, constantly evolving career.

From 2019 to 2022, Michel Rivard presented L'Origine de mes espèces, a solo musical theater that earned him three Félix awards at the 2019 ADISQ Gala in the categories Show - Singer-songwriter, Script and Direction, and Set Design of the Year (awarded to Claude Poissant and Patrice Charbonneau-Brunelle). He also received the Denise-Pelletier Prize in the Performing Arts category of the Prix du Québec and became a Companion of the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec.

In January 2023, the singer-songwriter began the Le tour du bloc tour, an anniversary show celebrating his 50-year career. Accompanied by 11 musicians on stage: backing vocalists, keyboards, wind instruments and the famous Flybin Band (Sylvain Clavette, Rick Haworth and Mario Légaré), he revisited the significant songs of his life. This show received two Félix awards in the categories Show of the Year - Singer-songwriter and Script of the Year as well as a silver ticket, acclaimed by the public and critics. He was also inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame that same year, a few days before the release of the show's album Le tour du bloc, released on October 20, 2023.

In October 2025, the album Après, on va où? will be released. In 2026, he will hit the road across Québec to present the stage version of this project. This show will take the form of a hybrid work combining songs and theatre.
