23 FEBRUARY 2018 (Toronto, ON) – Today, 21-year-old Scottish artist Lewis Capaldi releases his new single, “Rush”, featuring Juno nominated singer-songwriter and Toronto native, Jessie Reyez via Capitol Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Lewis and Jessie wrote the poignant song with GRAMMY® winner Malay (Frank Ocean, Lorde, Sam Smith), who also produced the track.
“‘Rush’ is all about heartbreak and the weird headspace you occupy after the end of a relationship where you feel like absolute shit and, if you’re being honest with yourself, you hope the other person feels just as bad,” says Capaldi. “Of course, the flip side of that is you obviously still care about this person, so really you hope they’re not experiencing the shit because you know how bad it feels and wouldn’t want that for them. So the whole tune is this internal conflict you’re having as you think about the situation.”
“Rush” follows Capaldi’s October 2017 debut EP Bloom, which has already accumulated over 100 million streams to date. Standout track, “Bruises” showcases his nimble vocal ability, as he effortlessly slips between smooth baritone, gravelly mid-tone, and haunting falsetto with pinpoint accuracy. It shot to No. 1 on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist and has over 60 million total streams globally.
Among his most recent achievements, Lewis Capaldi has been hailed as a ‘2018 Vevo Dscvr Artist To Watch’, named as FMQB’s ‘February 2018 Artist To Watch’, longlisted for the ‘BBC Sound Of 2018 Poll’ and won Breakthrough Artist of the Year honours at the Scottish Music Awards. He recently played his first North American shows, performing to sold out crowds across the country in support of multi-platinum German duo, Milky Chance. This summer, Lewis is set to perform at numerous music festivals, including Bonnaroo, (June 7) LaureLive (June 10) and Firefly (June 14).
Jessie Reyez is also one of 2018's most promising artists, recently earning an impressive four Juno award nominations and performance spot for the 2018 Juno Awards Broadcast, airing live from Vancouver on March 25. Her first single, “Figures”, has over 30 million plays on Spotify and is her biggest song to date. Jessie has also been the featured artist on tracks by Calvin Harris (“Hard To Love”), Romeo Santos (“Un Vuelo A La”), Black Atlass (“Sacrifice”) off the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, and Allan Rayman (“Repeat”). Growing up in the small town of Bathgate, outside of Glasgow, Lewis picked up the guitar at age nine, started writing songs at eleven, and began sneaking into pubs to perform when he was only 12. He devoted most of his adolescence to performing throughout Glasgow, Edinburgh and beyond. His first headline tour of the U.K. sold out in minutes – before any of his music had even been released.
