Wednesday, September 07, 2011 (Toronto, ON) - Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV (Cash Money/Universal Republic/Universal Music Canada) has debuted at #1 on the Nielsen Soundscan Album Chart with almost 31,000 albums sold in the first week of release. This marks Wayne's best ever one week sales total. This is also the second highest one week sales total for an album so far this year, only behind Lady Gaga's Born This Way. Momentum surrounding Tha Carter IV has escalated as Lil Wayne's second single, "How To Love" is now Top 20 at CHR radio. Tha Carter IV is also sitting #2 on the Digital Album Chart. Tha Carter IV was released on iTunes® immediately following Lil Wayne's performance on the MTV Video Music Awards at midnight on August 28, prior to the physical release on August 29. The New Orleans native who hails from the streets of Hollygrove released his first tracks at age 12 after he was introduced to Cash Money CEOs Ronald "Slim" Williams and Bryan "Birdman" Williams. Lil Wayne released the first instalment of Tha Carter series in 2004, followed by Tha Carter II in 2006, which cemented his status as one of the best MCs in the hip hop game. But it was 2008's critically acclaimed Tha Carter III that gave Lil Wayne his iconic stature in popular music.
