26 JANUARY 2024 (TORONTO, ON) - Today, Lydia Sutherland releases “girls at the bar” via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The vibrant new track highlights and celebrates the sisterhood of nightlife evident through Lydia’s signature storytelling style.
“‘girls at the bar’ is the ultimate girls girl anthem! I wrote it alongside Aaron Pollock and Caleb Oczkowski after my best friend and I went out to the bar,” says Lydia. “We were in the bathroom talking about boy problems I was having at the time thinking we were alone until a random girl popped her head out of the stall and started hyping me up like a dive bar fairy godmother. She completely turned my night around.”
The invigorating track also features artist Alli Walker. “As soon as Alli’s name was thrown in the mix as a potential feature I knew she’d be a perfect fit. I’ve always been such of fan of her as an artist, friend and person and I just know she would embody everything this song is on a night out! 'girls at the bar’ is a tribute to the girls you meet on a night out. You might never see them again but you’ll never forget them that’s for sure! So this one goes out to the unsung heroes we all know and love, the girls at the bar.”

Lydia’s honesty strikes a deep chord in every song she works on. This ability to harness vulnerability and write music that heals, began to form both her honest, relatable songwriting style and her artistic identity, rooted in authenticity.
The Nashville based, Québec-born singer/songwriter has already emerged as one of the most hotly sought-after songwriters and collaborators in the business. Through her own grit, determination, and talent, Sutherland has built a diverse songwriting catalog highlighted by “Hold Me Back” with Robyn Ottolini, “Mercy” with Kyle McKearney, “Weekend You” with Owen Riegling and many more. Building a backlog of nearly 900 songs, Lydia gained traction and signed a worldwide publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Nashville (UMPG) back at the start of 2023 and shortly after was added to Nashville Briefing’s ”25 songwriters you need to know” list. Thus far, it’s been quite the journey for Lydia as a songwriter, but as an artist—she has only just begun. She debuted with her first single “Love Me” in 2021 before accelerating her breakthrough with “Date A Friend“, which reached Top 40 at Canadian country radio after iHeartRadio christened her a “Future Star.”
Inspired by conceptual artists who write with raw honesty such as Taylor Swift and Julia Michaels, Lydia is crafting music for her label debut that captures the theme of growth and graduation. “25 is a weird transition age so there’s a lot of firsts happening. From falling in love, hating my body, moving out of my mom’s house, getting my first apartment, losing friends, making new ones - I’m still very much growing and trying to figure out who I want to be.” Lydia is channeling her therapeutic and empowering songwriting into relatable, catchy anthems that showcase her airy, emotionally-charged voice.
Stay tuned for much more to come from Lydia Sutherland.
