20 DECEMBER 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Maggie Rogers’ debut EP Now That The Light Is Fading will release on February 17, 2017 via Capital Records / Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The EP features four original songs written, produced and performed by the 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist, including the singles “Alaska” and “Dog Years”, which have more than 25 million streams combined worldwide, across all platforms. See below for tracklisting. “Alaska”, her debut single, charted in Spotify’s Viral 50 in 40 countries and hit #1 in 23 countries. With more than 20 million global streams to-date on Spotify, it earned Rogers a place on the Spotify Best of 2016 and set the stage for widespread international acclaim. Rogers is among Vevo’s DSCVR Ones To Watch for 2017 and was included on the BBC’s The Sound Of 2017 list in addition to being named as one of NPR’s Favorite Musicians of 2016 and a 2017 Artist to Watch by Pandora. Rogers will kick off her first North American Spring headline tour in San Diego on March 20 and will make stops in Canada in Toronto and Montreal in April. Shot in Rogers’ childhood summer camp in Maine, it was directed by filmmaker Zia Anger, who also helmed the video for “Alaska”, which has more than 1.8 million views. Paste said, “Maggie Rogers is back with another stunning single. ‘Dog Years’ stays true to the folk-dance hybrid precedent set by ‘Alaska,’ complete with bird trills and chirps.” NPR Music praised it as a “slithering and fantastically broody dance-pop track likely to be her second internet hit of the year.” Stereogum noted, “(Dog Years) combines coffeehouse folk and dance music in ways that feel completely instinctive, and it radiates a certain sunny that’s not even remotely difficult to like.” Billboard declares, “Dog Years solidifies Maggie Rogers as an artist to watch, and with a close eye, at that. (Dog Years) sees the singer explore the highs and lows of her voice, resulting in a blissful sonic journey.” An unfinished version of “Alaska” introduced Rogers to an unexpectedly wide audience earlier this year. The young artist, who grew up playing banjo in Maryland, was working on her music at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She played an early version of the song during a Masterclass taught by Pharrell Williams. After it was posted on YouTube, acclaim began pouring in from a dizzying number of media outlets. Pitchfork said, “‘Alaska’ is one of those songs where the beat is so palpable, the rhythm so ingrained in every fiber of the music…the flow is maintained through a stunning waterfall of Rogers’ folksy falsetto harmonizing with itself.” SPIN marveled at how it, “blends folk, electronic, and pop music sensibilities to form an entirely new hybridized sound.” NPR Music recently included “Alaska” in their Top 100 Songs of 2016 List and The New Yorker named “Alaska” one of their Three Most Listened To Songs of 2016.
