Multi-Platinum Artist Serena Ryder Releases New Video for “Ice Age”, the Latest Single from Utopia

Exclusive Video Premiere Today via ET Canada

Headlining Canadian Tour Begins December 10 and Includes Two All Ages Shows at Toronto’s The Danforth Music Hall

15 November 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Today, six-time JUNO Award winner Serena Ryder premieres the official video for “Ice Age” via ET Canada. Celebrating the incomparable power of music, the video - directed by Lowell Dean - depicts a withdrawn elderly woman who is reinvigorated when music causes a flood of long-lost memories to return to her. “The whole inspiration behind the ‘Ice Age’ music video is the documentary Alive Inside,” says Ryder. “The video encapsulates the healing power of music and how it can bring dementia and Alzheimer’s patients back to life like no medication has ever been able to. It’s mind blowing how powerful a medicine music can be. It’s a healer that breaks all cultural, age, class and gender chains.” Watch the exclusive premiere of “Ice Age” and ET Canada’s behind the scenes on-set interview HERE.

“Ice Age” is the latest single from Ryder’s latest album, Utopia, released in May via Serenader Source/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Like its video, “Ice Age” is about emotional triumph and “how freeing it is to really come out the other side of a broken heart and a broken mind with the realization that the only thing that is broken are the words themselves that we choose to define ourselves and our situation by,” says Ryder. “They can be so confining and can even ruin the beautiful complexity of things that should be felt. This is a song about breaking free from the icy chains of the past and thawing into an epic new shiny relationship with life.”

Finding the value and beauty in both strength and weakness, joy and pain, is a consistent theme throughout the songs on Utopia. Ryder’s journey toward inner peace and clarity was articulated in over 100 songs that she wrote over a three-year period during the creation of the album.  Listen to Utopia’s previous singles, “Got Your Number”, “Electric Love”, “Killing Time”, and “Utopia” on “The Best of Serena Ryder” Spotify playlist HERE.

The video for “Ice Age” follows last week’s release of Serena’s collaboration with Shawn Hook on their holiday cover of John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”. Ryder and Hook will be performing the song on CTV’s nationally-broadcasted Original Santa Claus Parade on Sunday, November 19 as well as CBC Toronto’s Sounds of the Season on December 1.

Next month, Ryder is embarking on another leg of her headlining Canadian tour which begins December 10 and includes two all-ages shows in Toronto at The Danforth Music Hall on December 21 and 22. Get tickets for Serena Ryder’s Utopia tour and special VIP ticket bundles at www.serenaryder.com.

Honing her craft from her teens and over the course of her many albums, EPs, and live releases, Serena Ryder has proved herself as a songwriting force to be reckoned with. Following the double-platinum success with her 2012 album, Harmony, Serena has returned to the top of the charts again with Utopia which debuted at #1 this spring and has already produced two Top 10 singles and awarded her another three SOCAN No. 1 Song Awards for “Got Your Number”, “Electric Love” and “Bend” (which she penned for Ria Mae), all of which hit #1 on CBC Radio 2. Over the course of the summer, she toured across Canada and performed at premiere events including the Canada Day 150 Celebration on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill, the 50th Anniversary of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada in Montréal, and the Opening Ceremony of the Canada Games in Winnipeg.
