Self-titled Debut Album To Be Released July 14

Canadian Dates This Summer

30 June 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Mura Masa has unveiled two brand new singles: “Blu” (featuring Damon Albarn) and "Second 2 None" (featuring Christine and the Queens). The two tracks are taken from his much-anticipated, self-titled debut album, Mura Masa, to be released on July 14th via Anchor Point/Polydor Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

“Blu” and “Second 2 None” are two stunning statements of intent from Mura Masa: the first, featuring lifelong hero Damon Albarn, and the second being the first piece of new music from Christine and The Queens since her million-selling debut album. “Blu” is an exquisite duet of soul and electronica, new faces and old, and the result of many months playing email-tag with Damon. Demon Days was the first album I ever bought, says Alex, and became a huge inspiration when making my own record in terms of showing that you don’t have to write shiny pop music to make something important.”  Meanwhile, "Second 2 None" twists a love of jungle and grime samples into an ethereal European torch-song. Christine is just the best person,” Alex recalls. “She recorded the whole song in about an hour – I think I pressed record four times – before going to a fashion awards show. It sounds weird not to expect a singer to be able to sing like that, but it was incredible.

“Blu” and “Second 2 None” are perhaps the most striking examples yet of the rise of Mura Masa: a singer and producer barely out of his teens who has shown how someone with an appetite for knowledge, even if their upbringing has been isolated, can make full use of having the world at their fingertips. His debut album assimilates an impressively diverse array of genres and guests (including the likes of Charli XCX, A$AP Rocky, Desiigner, A.K. Paul). Musically, you’re as likely to find Prince-like wired funk sitting next to trap as you are calypso-inflected house and acoustic balladry. What emerges across Mura Masa is ultimately an intended statement on what pop music and modern British culture should look like in 2017: open, generous and one in which anything is possible.
