27 APRIL 2018 (Toronto, ON) –Today, dirty digital pop band NEW CITY spotlight their latest single, “Getting Closer”, with the release of the official music video through Capitol Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Reaction to the track, which was released March 30, was immediate with over 1.5 million streams online within the first month and adds to prominent playlists on Spotify and Apple. Watch the video for “Getting Closer” HERE and get the track HERE

The video accompanying “Getting Closer”, which premiered exclusively with Apple Music, is directed by Steven Meyers and follows NEW CITY as Adrian, Jed and Nathan walk the all-too familiar path of a hungry young band eager for their opportunity to shine. Various vignettes inspired by the band’s journey are spun in a hypnotic cycle as they trace and retrace their steps in a ‘Groundhog Day’-like wash, rinse, repeat cycle of a young band writing, producing, rehearsing and performing their own music in search of success. The band comments: “We are so excited for y'all to see the official music video for our latest single, “Getting Closer”. It really narrates the journey of NEW CITY, from making music in our basement studio apartment to rocking the songs on stage for our fans. It's been an unbelievable ride and we are only getting closer. We hope it can inspire all of you to follow your dreams, no matter what's in the way of them.”

The video was shot using a techno dolly, a new technology enabling multiple shots to be layered together seamlessly. “Getting Closer” sees various takes of the band members appearing simultaneously as if echoed – a metaphor for the tireless days and nights a band spends working towards their dreams. “Getting Closer” comes at a crucial time for NEW CITY in their evolution, meditating on where they came from and looking forward to where they are headed. It represents a declaration of empowerment for the band which is universally resonant to anyone else chasing their dreams.

After a year dedicated mostly to creating and perfecting their party pop, genre-blurring sound, NEW CITY is excited to play their songs live for fans.  This week, the band announced they will be joining Jake Miller on his “Hit & Run” Tour throughout the U.S next month. Following that, the band will return to Canada for a number of headline shows and festival dates including a set at Festival D’été in Quebec City alongside the impressive lineup of acts like Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd, Future as well as a set at Cavendish Festival supporting Shawn Mendes and more. See the list of upcoming NEW CITY shows including the Jake Miller dates below. Stay tuned for more show announcements.

Just last year, NEW CITY released their first-ever song, “Coachella,” a summertime anthem about the Indio, California music festival.  The track has since amassed almost two million streams, with Clash magazine declaring it a “perfect pop confection.” The music video for the track, sees the band channeling party atmosphere of the desert festival – despite never having been. The follow-up, deep house-inflected “Dirty Secrets,” was the #1 Most Added single at Canadian Pop Radio.  The song entered the Canadian radio chart at number 22, jumping seven spots in just two weeks and clearing four million streams, "With the irresistible pop sensibilities of New City,” wrote Billboard, “they are a secret you’ll want to share."

Shortly after the release of “Dirty Secrets”, NEW CITY’s dirty digital sound borrowing from pop, rhythmic, EDM and rock influences caught the attention of Grammy-winning multiplatinum super producer, Timbaland, and his manager Gary Marella who inked the band to Mosley Music Group imprint alongside Capitol Records stateside.  “These guys are incredibly talented and have what it takes to be superstars” Timbaland. Mosley Music Group, founded in 2006 started with a simple mission in mind: work with great artists regardless of genre. Timbaland has been a big supporter of the band, celebrating their news on socials, share his latest post HERE.

Most recently, the band has celebrated success back home after being nominated for Best New Group or Solo Artist in two formats (CHR and Dance/Urban/Rhythmic) for the 2018 Canadian Radio Music Awards.

NEW CITY – made up of Adrian Mitchell (vocals), Jed Webster (guitar, programming) and Nathan Brown (drums, programming) — are unapologetic about being young, free and in pursuit of a good time. Formed in 2017, out of two separate projects. Webster and Brown are lifelong friends who grew up together in the small farming community of Sussex, New Brunswick; Webster’s dad fed him a steady diet of blues guitar heroes (Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Muddy Waters), while Brown was more focused on rock groups before discovering electronic music in high school. The pair took a big leap and moved to Toronto, sleeping on a basement floor for two years and working on music every day. They met R&B fan Mitchell, who was born in Oro-Medonte in central Ontario, trying to make it as a solo artist, at a hotel party and quickly joined forces.
