Nina Simone’s classic album I Put A Spell On You, originally released in June of 1965 stands as a towering achievement in her catalog as an exploration of love, desire, and defiance. Anchored by her smoldering version of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ title track, the album weaves together bawdy blues (“Gimme Some,” “Take Care of Business”), sophistication (“Ne Me Quitte Pas,” “You’ve Got to Learn”) and jazz-infused soul - including the streaming-era anthem “Feeling Good,” whose bold messaging and brassy arrangement still resonates across popular culture today.
