THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FOR STEVEN SPIELBERG’S SCI-FI EPIC, “READY PLAYER ONE”, SET TO ARRIVE ON MARCH 30

FEATURES ORIGINAL SCORE BY COMPOSER ALAN SILVESTRI

“READY PLAYER ONE” MAIN TITLE THEME AVAILABLE NOW

16 MARCH 2018 (Toronto, ON) – The hotly-anticipated soundtrack to “Ready Player One” – Steven Spielberg’s science fiction action adventure, based on Ernest Cline’s best-selling book of the same name has been announced to arrive on March 30. Available online now for pre-order via Decca Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, Ready Player One (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) features a brand-new score by Grammy award-winning composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, Back to The Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump). The film hits theatres worldwide on March 29.

The film’s director/producer Steven Spielberg says, “While all sorts of culturally iconic references populate Ready Player One, the score that Alan Silvestri composed is completely and intoxicatingly original. It’s bound together by multiple themes that identify plot and character and is infused by such percussive adrenaline and soaring strings that Alan has made Ready Player One appear to fly. I think his score is fantastic.”

Though “Ready Player One” marks their first collaboration on a film directed by Spielberg, Alan Silvestri has scored a number of films produced by the filmmaker, including the “Back to the Future” films. The composer says, “An invitation to travel arrived just about a year ago, not just to a place, but to a time.  Actually, to a number of times—primarily the year 2045, along with a few stops in the 80s. A rather detailed map had been drawn by Ernest Cline and the Captain of the voyage, none other than Mr. Spielberg himself. What could one possibly do or say? Pencil in hand, one firmly fastens one’s seatbelt, says ‘Sir, Yes, Sir,’ and prepares for the trip of a lifetime.”

About “Ready Player One”

From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The film is set in 2045, with the real world on the brink of chaos and collapse.  But people have found salvation in the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone.  The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance).  When Halliday died, he left his immense fortune, and total control of the OASIS, to the first person to win three keys, unlocking the door to a digital Easter egg he hid somewhere in his seemingly infinite creation.  His challenge launched a game that gripped the entire world, but after five years the scoreboard remained tauntingly empty...until now.

An unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan)—under his avatar name, Parzival—finally conquers the first contest, instantly becoming a celebrity...and a target.  Ruthless corporate mogul Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn) proves he will stop at nothing to beat Wade and take over the OASIS, and suddenly the virtual stakes are all-too-real.  Ultimately realizing he cannot win alone, Wade joins forces with his friends—now the High Five (Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki).  Together, they are hurled into a reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS.

Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline, based on the book by Cline.  Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Spielberg and Dan Farah produced the film, with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris deFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.  “Ready Player One” stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Hannah John-Kamen, with Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Amblin Entertainment present, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, an Amblin Production, a De Line Pictures Production, a Steven Spielberg Film, “Ready Player One.”  Opening on Thursday, March 29, 2018 in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX®, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures. The film has been rated PG-13.
