Pop Songstress Cassie Dasilva Premieres Her Debut Song and Video, “Welcome To My Castle”, Today

02 March 2018 (Toronto, ON) – Today, 24-year-old pop singer-songwriter Cassie Dasilva makes her major record label debut with the release of “Welcome To My Castle”, the first of three singles to come this year via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Written on the last day of a SOCAN writing camp, the lyrics serve as an authentic introduction to who Cassie is as an artist. “This song is about embracing yourself, flaws and all, and being comfortable with everyone seeing that, too,” Cassie says. “It’s a proclamation of sorts, to say ‘This is me, I’m not perfect, and I’m not trying to be.’” The official music video for “Welcome To My Castle” premiered today on Umusic.ca. Watch the video HERE.

Produced by Mike Wise (bülow, Allie X, Serena Ryder, Ralph), “Welcome To My Castle” is Cassie’s first venture into a full-blown pop production. After growing up writing, co-producing, and recording in the folk genre, Cassie is now translating the integrity of folk music’s storytelling into pop music. “Moving into that electronic pop world just felt right,” she says. “When we went into actual production, I had such a clear image of where I wanted to go sonically, and Mike Wise listened really well and brought that vision to life.”

Directed by Emma Higgins - current Juno Award nominee for “The Drugs” by Mother Mother - the video for “Welcome To My Castle” is a playful visual stimulation. With its light and dark worlds, the video mirrors the contrast of sweet, innocent sounds like the music box and Cassie’s vocal tone contrasted with the darker undertones of heavy drums. “We went with two different ‘worlds’ for the video,” Cassie recalls. “The light theme - where everything was kind of prim and proper and ‘perfect’, and a darker theme that was more candid and free. My main request (for the seven-year-old inside of me) was to have a giant princess bouncy castle which was MAGICAL. But I speak for both myself and the DOP when I say that jumping around in a bouncy castle non-stop is a lot more exhausting than I remember it being as a kid.”

After spending years honing her craft on songwriting trips to L.A., collaborating with award-winning writers and producers like Joshua Bartholomew and Lisa Harriton (“Everything Is Awesome”) and Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen), and graduating from production and audio engineering school, Cassie is now on the verge of taking on the pop music world.
