CELEBRATED TROUBADOUR URGES AMERICANS TO ENGAGE IN POSITIVE CHANGE

01 MARCH 2016 (Toronto, ON) - Canadian singer-songwriter Raffi is best known as a composer and performer of music for children, and has long been an outspoken advocate for human rights and the environment. Raffi's new composition, Wave of Democracy, takes inspiration from the ongoing leadership nomination races in the United States and the campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders in particular, with its call for a return to 'We The People' democracy. Raffi has written and recorded songs inspired by the likes of Nelson Mandela, Jane Goodall, and the Dalai Lama. What's more, like the late Pete Seeger, Raffi is a passionate defender of the ideals of democracy and hopes this song will serve as a call to action for Americans to wrest control of their political institutions away from corporations through active participation and, most importantly, voting. Raffi says, "The world needs an America that is a nation for the people -- fair and just. Fighting climate, not endless wars. An America that honours its young, nurtures their families, and earns the respect of the global community. Here's to a wave of democracy: a spirit of dedication, engagement, and democratic action. Here's to voting in a progressive era of responsible government and sustainability." In January of this year, Raffi released his 14th original album of music for children, Owl Singalong, via Troubadour/Concord/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. About Raffi: The Washington Post described Raffi "The most popular children's singer in the English-speaking world," and the Toronto Star called him "Canada's all time children's champion." As well as gaining gold and multi-platinum sales awards, Raffi is an author and founder of the Centre For Child Honouring.  A recipient four honorary doctorates, Raffi is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.
