Rise Against: The Black Market #1 Debut in Canada – Press Releases

23 JULY 2014 (Toronto, ON) – Chicago-based hardcore quartet Rise Against today have debuted at #1 on the Canadian Neilsen SoundScan chart with their latest album, The Black Market, released July 15 via Interscope/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The album follows 2011’s Endgame, which also debuted at #1 in Canada. The Black Market focuses on the cost of self-awareness. “Rise Against has always been a political band, but also a personal band,” says vocalist-guitarist Tim McIlrath. “We’ve always had songs that have a foot in both worlds. This album is a lot more introspective to me.” First single I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore is a case in point, riding a huge chorus and speaking of universal themes of entrapment and escape. These are reflected in their powerful video for the song, which the band says “encompasses the overwhelming noise of our world and the fatigue we all feel as its witness. This song is a starting point, not an ending point.
