20 JUNE 2025 (TORONTO, ON) - Today marks the premiere of “That Could Be Me,” the latest single from 22-year-old breakout star Alessi Rose. A wildly riveting portrait of obsession, “That Could Be Me” is the second song released from the self-made singer/songwriter’s highly anticipated new EP Voyeur, due out via Capitol Records on July 25.

The follow-up to her Capitol Records debut single “Same Mouth” — a fiercely confessional track that premiered last month alongside its official lyric video — “That Could Be Me” once again reveals Alessi’s rare talent for turning her messiest and most secret feelings into arena-sized anthems. This time around, the London-based artist delivers an alt-rock-edged bop that finds an unlikely pleasure in the pain of unrequited longing.
“‘That Could Be Me’ is about desire, particularly when that person is in love with someone else, and the tension you feel between wanting them and knowing that morally you can’t do anything about it,” says Alessi. “It’s the most frustrating kind of yearning, where it’s angry and out of your control.”
Produced by Josh Scarbrow (Arlo Parks, Etta Marcus), Benjy Gibson (Uffie, BTS), and Oli Fox (Good Neighbours, Luna), “That Could Be Me” echoes that angsty intensity with its gorgeous barrage of jagged guitar riffs and potent live drums — a perfect counterbalance to Alessi’s tender vocals and sticky-sweet melodies. Meanwhile, the song’s ultravivid lyrics brilliantly blur the lines between fantasy and reality, with Alessi narrating every moment of her feverish daydreaming (from the chorus: “That could be me, steaming up your backseat/Rip out my heart/Throw it out on the concrete, baby”). By the time the bridge hits, “That Could Be Me” achieves an epic emotional power thanks to Alessi’s hypnotic delivery and the unstoppable force of the track’s hard-hitting rhythms.
Like every song on Voyeur, “That Could Be Me” showcases the boldly detailed storytelling and whip-smart point-of-view that have brought Alessi massive success over the past two years. Hailed as one of the “15 Rising U.K. and Ireland Acts to Watch in 2025” by Billboard, Alessi has amassed millions of streams across a pair of EPs and emerged as one of the most fascinating young artists on the scene today, garnering critical praise from the NME, Line of Best Fit, The Face and more. In this cover feature, Dork Magazine declared her “the voice of a new confessional pop generation.” Made with leading producers like Sam De Jong (Gracie Abrams, Lennon Stella), John Hill (Cage the Elephant, Carly Rae Jepsen), and Sammy Witte (Halsey, SZA), the eight-song project brings her uncompromising vision to a stream-of-consciousness exploration of her complex inner world.
“In my EP Voyeur, the voyeurism is twofold,” Alessi explains. “The audience becomes a voyeur of my innermost thoughts and feelings through the music, but additionally I am a voyeur of myself and my own, sometimes self-sabotaging, decisions. I wanted this EP to feel like the unfiltered version of events that you tell your closest friends and I feel like the bluntness and stream of consciousness lyrics reflect that. I don’t care how I’m perceived because I trust the listener.”
Fresh off her first series of U.S. tour dates (including sold-out two-night stands at New York City’s Baby’s All Right and the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles), Alessi is now supporting Dua Lipa in arenas and stadiums on the European/U.K. leg of the pop superstar’s Radical Optimism tour. With two sold-out two U.K./European headline tours already under her belt (both of which sold out in less than 10 minutes, subsequently upgraded venues and immediately sold out again), Alessi will soon join Tate McRae on the North American leg of the Miss Possessive tour, launching this August.
Growing up in Derby, England, Alessi first explored her creative side by writing poetry at age 13. With her longtime inspirations including pop visionaries like Lorde and Kate Bush, she soon began writing songs and later taught herself to produce music while working as a bartender to save up for college. As she gained attention for her gritty but deeply heartfelt songwriting, Alessi made her debut in the summer of 2023 with the self-written and self-produced “say ur mine,” which amassed over 40K views in less than a week. From there she released “hate this part” before building out a string of singles for her 2024 debut EP, rumination as ritual. Earlier this year, Alessi released her second EP, for your validation, featuring the singles “IKYK” and “oh my,” quickly earning a global following. Stay tuned for more new music from Alessi soon.
