SHAWN DESMAN FUSES MUSIC AND FILM WITH ALIVE

NEW ALBUM ALIVE, SET FOR FEBRUARY 05 RELEASE

SAME-DAY PREMIERE OF POWERFUL MUCHMUSIC SPECIAL

(23 January 2013 – Toronto, ON) – Canadian pop sensation Shawn Desman will release his fourth studio album, ALIVE, on 05 February 2013 through Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The 10-track album features Desman’s smash hit, “Nobody Does it Like You” and the current single “Dum Da Dum”. To complement the album, Desman will simultaneously premiere his first-ever, 30-minute on-air special, “ALIVE”, exclusively on MuchMusic at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Set to the music of the upcoming album, “ALIVE” stars Desman, Heartland’s Kaitlyn Leeb, Degrassi’s Melinda Shankar and Lost Girl’s K.C. Collins.

As the driving force behind “ALIVE”, the music on the new album carries strong messages that are near and dear to Desman’s heart. The entire score, along with all of the music heard in the special was composed by Desman himself.

“I am so excited to put out this new album,” says Desman. “The story of ALIVE is about the power of persistence, love, belief in oneself and the pursuit of one’s dreams. Not only am I telling this story through the songs on the album, I am telling it through the art of film, photography, music video, dance and social media. This is storytelling for a new generation.”

The music videos for Desman’s first two singles off the album, “Nobody Does it Like You” and “Dum Da Dum”, are narratively connected to the on-air special, providing audiences with a wider platform to experience the story of “ALIVE”. See how the main characters were introduced to viewers in Desman’s “Dum Da Dum” video here. Desman’s third music video for the album will act as an extension of a scene in the special, where the narrative for the video cleverly intersects with the journey of the characters. “ALIVE” will be available for download on iTunes at a later date as a part of the deluxe version of the album. “ALIVE” is a production by The Fable Company Ltd. and was funded in part by MuchFACT, the groundbreaking Music Video, EPK, Viral Video, and Website production fund exclusively funded by Much and MuchMore; divisions of Bell Media.   As previously announced, Desman is also set to tour across Canada on his ALIVE tour throughout the month of February, performing for fans in 15 cities from coast to coast. The tour will feature well-known Canadian songstress Anjulie and will make stops in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Medicine Hat, Kelowna and Thunder Bay, to name a few.   Desman’s self-titled debut album, released in the fall of 2002 spent an incredible 49 weeks on the SoundScan Top 200 sales chart and produced two Top 10 singles and two #1 videos. His visibility then soared to even greater heights after the subsequent release of his sophomore album BACK FOR MORE which produced a #1 single, three Top 10 hit singles, and also garnered him a Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording. His high-energy, infectious single, “Let’s Go”, exploded onto the Top 40 radio chart after just 1 week, peaking at #1. His most recent project after a five year hiatus was his third album FRESH. The first single was the Gold selling hit “Shiver”, a chart topping smash. The second and third releases off the album, Platinum selling singles “Night Like This” and “Electric” both reached #1 in Canada.   ALIVE tracklist:   1. Alive 2. Nobody Does It Like You 3. Stuck 4.
