10 APRIL 2026 (TORONTO, ON) - Multidisciplinary Chicago artist Sparklmami announces her debut album in this body, out June 5th via Verve Records / slowplay. Coinciding with the announcement, she is sharing the album’s opening track, “no te vayas”, a jubilant single that traverses jazz and funk as an invitation into the musical and spiritual world of in this body. The song is accompanied by anew music video directed by Sparklmami herself that features a cameo from Andre Gibson of the renowned Chicago musical outfit Universal Togetherness Band.

Speaking about the “no te vayas” video, Sparklmami explains, “As an undergrad in my video art class, I was introduced to The Chicago Party – basically a public access television talent show documenting Chicago arts in the mid-80s. I remember being so fascinated by not only the talent on the show, but feeling the DIY spirit that continues to carry Chicago culture forward. One of the groups that I saw perform on the show was the Universal Togetherness Band, who embodied that Chicago energy where if you want to do something, you just have to make it happen. When I was visualizing the world of “no te vayas”, I immediately knew it was going to be a party, and that I wanted to honor the Chicago community who had inspired me and been a part of my journey as an artist. I am grateful to Andre for bridging his past to my present and recreating the vibe of the most formative media from my childhood. He will always be a legend to me.

In this body unfurls like a series of vividly realized dreams, delving into Sparklmami’s psyche and unleashing a fantastical barrage of musical cues from her childhood with imaginative and improvisational bouts of self-expression. Sonically, the album draws equally from influences, like the glimmering jazz of 1970’s Brazil and the Mexican boleros that radiated through her home growing up. In this body is expansive and free. It’s an opportunity for Sparklmami to embody all of the nuances that make her who she is, unguarded by self-conscious editing, as much of the album was recorded in single takes with her speaking directly from her subconscious onto the record.

That feeling of openness and vulnerability permeates throughout the album, with Sparklmami and each member of the band she recorded with enabled to improvise and build a sound for the album symbiotically out of several sessions together. Eddie Burns (Executive Producer, Drums), William Corduroy (Executive Producer, Bass), Alec Trickett (Percussion), Josh Jessen (Keys, Synths) and Kenneth Leftridge Jr. (Saxophone) were all involved in bringing the music to life, guided by Sparklmami as the album’s audacious conductor. She also enlisted a wider musical community for the album, including instrumentation and contributions from the likes of Nico Segal (The Social Experiment, Neil Young), Alex Santilli (Thee Sacred Souls), Raphael Olivier (Etienne Daho, Yael Naim, National Jazz Orchestra), Adlai Reinhart (Shawnee Dez) and Chris Misch (Metro Boomin, Gunna, Bobby McFerrin). In this body is a record rooted in this connection, in a deeply felt love for your community, your family, and yourself, and in the wondrous realization that you can build new worlds for them.

Sparklmami first introduced the world to her music through two impactful singles she released in 2024, fajas” and “running. She performed both songs as part of an Elevator Music live performance that introduced key collaborators in her band. Last month, Sparklmami revisited “running” with a re-release that included an invigorated remix from renowned LA producer and beatmaker Mndsgn, and a live version recorded during a session with her close-knit band of collaborators in Chicago. Following the re-release, she joined Rio Kosta on tour for a run ofCalifornia and Texas live dates, and last week, she shared the stage with Spanish star rusowsky for a sold-out hometown show at Chicago’s Thalia Hall.
