08 MAY 2026 (TORONTO, ON) - Chicago’s multihyphenate songstress Sparklmami shares “quisiera”, the latest single from her forthcoming debut album in this body, out June 5th via Verve Records / slowplay. The song is her own rapturous version of a traditional bolero, heavily steeped in the inherent romance of the genre and its inextricable rhythm. Addressed to her mother rather than a romantic partner, “quisiera” holds a deep sense of yearning – a burning desire to fill the emotional and generational chasm that separates them with a sense of mutual understanding.

Sparklmami’s new single arrives following her recent shows opening for UK powerhouse songstress Joy Crookes and Spanish star rusowsky in Chicago last month. This week, she also announces a new set of live shows coming this Summer, including a hometown show supporting Patrice Rushen as part of Chicago’s Millenium Park Summer Music Series. Sparklmami will also be playing headlining dates in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right and in LA at Moroccan Lounge, as part of Jazz Is Dead, this July.

In this body is driven by Sparklmami’s own imagination. She mines her psyche and spins up surreal imagery to make sense of childhood memories she looks back on with a refreshed adult perspective, each serving as a portrait of her life. Those stories are filled in by a dream-like soundscape of the various generational and cultural music that colored her upbringing, acting as a radio dial of the music that turns to unveil the soundtrack of her life. The album is a guided meditation on Sparklmami’s own identity, and how familial, cultural and geographic factors shaped her and the art she makes, answering questions of her past with a vibrant sense of who she is today.

That atmosphere of openness and vulnerability shaped how the album was made, enabling Sparklmami and each member of her band to improvise and bring ideas to the table, building songs together symbiotically. Eddie Burns (Executive Producer, Drums), William Corduroy (Executive Producer, Bass), Alec Trickett (Percussion), Josh Jessen (Keys, Synths) and Kenneth Leftridge Jr. (Saxophone) were all involved in bringing the music to life, guided by Sparklmami as the album’s audacious conductor. She also enlisted a wider musical community for the album, including instrumentation and contributions from the likes of Nico Segal (The Social Experiment, Neil Young), Alex Santilli (Thee Sacred Souls), Raphael Olivier (Etienne Daho, Yael Naim, National Jazz Orchestra), Adlai Reinhart (Shawnee Dez)  and Chris Misch (Metro Boomin, Gunna, Bobby McFerrin).

Sparklmami first introduced the world to her music through two impactful singles she released in 2024, “fajas” and “running”. She performed both songs as part of an Elevator Music live performance that introduced key collaborators in her band. Last month, Sparklmami revisited “running” with a re-release that included an invigorated remix from renowned LA producer and beatmaker Mndsgn, and a live version recorded during a session with her close-knit band of collaborators in Chicago. Following the re-release, she joined Rio Kosta on tour for a run of California and Texas live dates, and shared the stage with Spanish star rusowsky for a sold-out hometown show at Chicago’s Thalia Hall.
