23 JUNE 2023 (TORONTO,ON) - Break out the tissues! GRAMMY®-nominated singer, songwriter, and composer Cody Fry has released the love story to end all love stories with his new single and music video, “Waltz for Sweatpants” - watch HERE. The song comes on the heels of his stunning composition of Coldplay’s “Fix You.” Both songs will be featured on Cody’s upcoming album, The End, set to be released September 15 via Decca Records US/Universal Music Canada.

Written and composed entirely by Cody, “Waltz for Sweatpants” combines a triumphant symphony orchestra with effervescent vocals to tell the unorthodox tale of a budding romance. The heartfelt song recounts an eccentric love story, proclaiming, “we wore sweatpants to the ball, sneakers echoed through the hall, and the rain didn’t help with our hair.” The track’s accompanying video evokes the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a black and white ballroom scene that slowly becomes enveloped in vivid technicolor as the protagonist, initially mocked for showing up in sneakers, encourages others to embrace their quirks and join her in a dynamic dance sequence.

On his inspiration for the track, Cody explains, “What I really love about being in love is staying at home all day in my sweatpants. That feels like romantic love to me! So, I wanted a song for myself, and for people who feel that way. The song is about two people who show up to the ball in their pajamas. It’s a song for the crazy ones, for the people who don’t fit in.”

Cody’s symphonic pop brilliance will be on full display on his forthcoming album, The End. Following the multi-instrumentalist’s first ever panic attack in March 2020, Cody experienced a bout of severe anxiety that lasted several months. Cody found himself in uncharted territory, having never struggled with his mental health in this capacity. This experience gave him a new perspective on mental illness and inspired him to tell his own story through the course of his upcoming album, which explores themes of love, mental health, and learning to heal.

Over the last few years, Cody has captivated audiences with his unique blend of orchestral sounds and contemporary pop music, placing the Illinois native in a league of his own. With the charm of a theater kid and a thumb on the pulse of pop culture, Cody has reintroduced younger generations to the beauty of the symphony orchestra through his viral compositions. In 2021, his powerful single “I Hear a Symphony” went viral on TikTok, surpassing 200 million streams and reaching #1 on the Billboard Classical Tracks chart. Cody’s internet stardom didn’t stop there - his arrangement of “Eleanor Rigby” took the internet by storm, with the song being embraced in the form of millions of memes, 50M streams, and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals.”

“Waltz for Sweatpants” gives listeners a sneak peak of what they can expect on Cody’s upcoming album.
